The Bribery Game
Artists were highly respected in the court of Vijayanagara king Krishnadeva Raya. His court was full of musicians, lyricists, poets and dancers. They all performed their art in the court and were given prizes in return. Maharaj used to seek advice from Tenali Raman before giving any award or money to any artist. He knew that Tenali Raman is not only intelligent, but he also has a good knowledge of art.
The rest of the courtiers were jealous of this honor given to Tenali Raman. The court wanted the king to stop believing in Tenali Raman. Once Tenali Raman could not come to the court. Taking advantage of his absence, the courtiers started filling the ears of the king. They said to the king, “Maharaj, Tenali Raman is a very dishonest man. Whichever artist gets the award as per his recommendation, he takes bribe beforehand from them. So, you stop taking advice from him on this matter." Tenali Raman did not come to the court for four-five days, then the courtiers again told the same thing to the king. On repeatedly hearing from all the courtiers, even the king got suspicious of Tenali Raman.
When Tenali Raman appeared in the court after a few days, he saw Maharaj somewhat disturbed. Tenali Raman saw that now Maharaj has stopped taking advice from him before awarding any prize. Seeing this, Tenali Raman became very sad. Then one day a singing competition was organized in the king's court. As soon as the competition was over Tenali Raman said, "Apart from a singer everyone should be rewarded”. But the king avoided Tenali Raman and behaved exactly the opposite. He rewarded that one singer and returned everyone else empty handed. This was very humiliating for Tenali Raman. All the courtiers were very happy to see this insult towards Tenali Raman.
லஞ்ச விளையாட்டு
விஜயநகர மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயரின் அரசவையில் கலைஞர்கள் மிகவும் மதிக்கப்பட்டனர். அவரது அவையில் இசைக்கலைஞர்கள், பாடலாசிரியர்கள், கவிஞர்கள் மற்றும் நடனக் கலைஞர்கள் நிறைந்திருந்தனர். அவர்கள் அனைவரும் அரசவையில் தங்கள் கலையை நிகழ்த்தினர், அதற்குப் பதில் பரிசுகள் வழங்கப்பட்டன. எந்த ஒரு கலைஞருக்கு விருதையோ, பணத்தையோ கொடுப்பதற்கு முன்பு தெனாலி ராமனிடம் மன்னர் ஆலோசனை கேட்பார். ஏனென்றால் தெனாலி ராமன் புத்திசாலி மட்டுமல்ல, கலை அறிவு மிகுந்தவர் என்பது மன்னருக்குத் தெரியும்.
தெனாலி ரானுக்குக் கிடைத்த இந்த மரியாதையைக் கண்டு மற்ற அரசவையினர் பொறாமை கொண்டனர். தெனாலி ராமன் மீது அரசர் கொண்டிருந்த நம்பிக்கையை தகர்க்க வேண்டும் என்கிற அரசவையினர் நினைத்தனர்.
ஒருமுறை தெனாலி ராமனால் அரசவைக்கு வர முடியவில்லை. அவர் இல்லாததை சாதகமாகப் பயன்படுத்தி, அரசவையினர் அரசரிடம் கிசுகிசுக்கத் தொடங்கினர். தெனாலி ராமன் மிகவும் நேர்மையற்ற மனிதர். அவரது பரிந்துரைப்படி யாருக்கு விருது கிடைத்தாலும் அவர்களிடம் இருந்து லஞ்சம் வாங்குகிறார். எனவே, இந்த விஷயத்தில் அவரிடம் ஆலோசனை கேட்பதை நிறுத்துங்கள் மன்னரிடம் கூறினர்.
தெனாலி ராமன் நான்கைந்து நாட்களாக அரசவைக்கு வரவில்லை. பின்னர் அரசவையினர் மீண்டும் அரசரிடம் அதையே சொன்னார்கள். பலமுறை அரசவையினர் இதே விஷயத்தை கூறி வந்ததால் அரசனுக்கும் தெனாலி ராமன் மீது சந்தேகம் ஏற்பட்டது.
சில நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு தெனாலி ராமன் அரசவையில் ஆஜரானபோது, மன்னர் சற்றே கலங்கியிருப்பதைக் கண்டார். இப்போது மன்னர் எந்தப் பரிசும் வழங்குவதற்கு முன்பு தன்னிடம் ஆலோசனை கேட்பதை நிறுத்திவிட்டதை தெனாலி ராமன் பார்த்தார். இதைப் பார்த்த தெனாலிராமுக்கு மிகுந்த வருத்தம் ஏற்பட்டது.
அப்போது ஒருநாள் அரசவையில் பாட்டுப் போட்டி நடைபெற்றது. போட்டி முடிந்தவுடன் தெனாலி ராமன், “ஒரு பாடகர் தவிர அனைவருக்கும் வெகுமதி அளிக்கப்பட வேண்டும்" என்றார். தெனாலி ராமன் கூறியதற்கு நேர்மாறாக மன்னர் நடந்து கொண்டார். அவர் ஒரு பாடகருக்கு வெகுமதி அளித்து மற்ற அனைவரையும் வெறுங்கையுடன் திருப்பி அனுப்பினார். இதனால் தெனாலி ராமனுக்கு மிகவும் அவமானமாக இருந்தது. தெனாலி ராமனுக்கு ஏற்பட்ட இந்த அவமானத்தைக் கண்டு அரசவையினர் அனைவரும் மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தனர். - கட்டுரையாளர்: ஆங்கிலத் துறை முன்னாள் உதவிப் பேராசிரியர்
