The Sweet that made the king say ‘Wow’!

When Tenali Raman invited the king and Rajpurohit to come with him by night to get his favourite sweet, the king gave idea that it could be prepared in the palace itself. But Tenali Raman replied, “No Maharaj, no one will come here to make that sweet. You have to walk outside with me.” The Maharaj with a laugh said, "come on its okay. Tonight we will have our dessert from your favourite place”.

After having dinner, Maharaj and Rajpurohit put on simple clothes and left with Tenali Raman. After crossing the village, walking a long distance in the fields, Maharaj said, “How much more will we have to walk Tenali Rama? You have made us tired today." “Just a little further,” replied Tenali Raman.

When they all reached the sweet spot, Tenali Raman made Maharaj and Rajpurohit sit on a cot and went to get the sweets himself. In no time he brought with him three bowls of hot sweets. As soon as the Maharaj tasted the sweet, nothing but wow came out of his mouth. The Maharaj and the Rajpurohit devoured the whole sweet at one go.

He then said to Tenali Raman, "Wow Pandit Ramakrishna! It was fun! What was this sweet? We've never eaten this before."

Tenali Raman smiled at Maharaj's words and said, "Maharaj, this is jaggery. There is a sugarcane field nearby and farmers make jaggery from it at night. I love coming here and eating jaggery. I believe that even hot jaggery is no less than the best dessert.”

“Absolutely, Pandit Rama, absolutely. On this point, bring us one more bowl of sweets” said King Krishnadeva Raya wholeheartedly. After this, all three ate a bowl of jaggery and then returned to the palace. Happiness can also be found in small things, which may not be found even after spending a lot of money.

மூவரும் இனிப்பு கிடைக்கும் இடத்தை அடைந்ததும், தெனாலி ராமன் மன்னரையும், ராஜகுருவையும் ஒரு கட்டிலில் உட்கார வைத்துவிட்டு, தானே இனிப்புகளை எடுத்து வர சென்றார். சிறிது நேரத்தில் மூன்று கிண்ணங்களில் சூடான இனிப்புகளைக் கொண்டு வந்தார். மன்னர் இனிப்பைச் சுவைத்தவுடன், வாயில் இருந்து ‘ஆஹா' தவிர வேறு எதுவும் வரவில்லை. மன்னரும் ராஜகுருவும் ஒரேயடியாக அத்தனை இனிப்புகளையும் சாப்பிட்டு முடித்தனர். அப்போது அவர் தெனாலி ராமனிடம், “அடடே பண்டிதர் ராமகிருஷ்ணா! குஷியாக இருந்தது! என்ன இனிப்பு பலகாரம் இது? நாங்கள் இதற்கு முன் இதை சாப்பிட்டதில்லையே" என்றார் மன்னர்.

மன்னரின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டு தெனாலி ராமன் சிரித்துவிட்டு, “மன்னா இது வெல்லம். அருகிலேயே கரும்பு வயல் உள்ளதால், இரவு நேரங்களில் விவசாயிகள் அதிலிருந்து வெல்லம் தயாரிக்கின்றனர். இங்கு வந்து வெல்லம் சாப்பிடுவது எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடிக்கும். சிறந்த இனிப்பு பண்டத்தை விட சூடான வெல்லம் எந்த விதத்திலும் குறைவானது இல்லை என்றே நான் நம்புகிறேன்” என்றார். நிச்சயமாக, பண்டிதர் ராமா, நிச்சயமாக. இந்த கட்டத்தில், எங்களுக்கு இன்னும் ஒரு கிண்ண நிறைய இனிப்புகளை கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்று முழுமனதுடன் மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் கூறினார். அதன் பிறகு, மூவரும் மற்றொரு கிண்ணம் வெல்லம் சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டு அரண்மனைக்குத் திரும்பினர். சின்ன சின்ன விஷயங்களில் கூட மகிழ்ச்சி காணலாம். எவ்வளவு பணம் செலவழித்தாலும் அது கிடைக்கும் என்று சொல்வதற்கில்லை.
