Wonderful Victory Pillar of the Sculpture!

Once Maharaja Krishnadeva Raya returned to Vijayanagara after conquering the neighbouring kingdom and announced the celebration of the festival. The whole city was decorated as if there was a big festival. In order to make this victory memorable, the idea came in the mind of Maharaj Krishnadeva Raya that why not build a victory pillar in the city. To make the pillar, Maharaj immediately called the most skilled craftsman of the state and handed over the work to him.

According to the orders of the Maharaj, the craftsman also got involved in his work and for several weeks, day and night, he completed the work of the Victory Pillar. As soon as the Victory Pillar was completed, the courtiers and the townspeople, including the Maharaj, were convinced of the craftsman's art.

Pleased with the craftsmanship of the craftsman, Maharaj called him to the court and asked him to ask for a reward. After listening to him, the craftsman said, "O my lord, you liked my work, this is the biggest reward for me. You just keep your grace on me." Maharaj was pleased to hear the answer of the craftsman, but he insisted that he would definitely give some reward to the craftsman. Maharaj told the Sculpture that he would have to ask for some reward.

After knowing the wish of the Maharaj, the other courtiers present in the court started telling the craftsman that Maharaj is trying to give something to you with an open mind. You ask soon. Apart from being expert in his art, the craftsman was also self-respecting and intelligent. Shilpi felt that if he did not ask for something, Maharaj might get angry. If he takes anything, it will be against his self-respect and principles.

In such a situation, after thinking for some time, the craftsman emptied his bag of tools brought with him and while moving the empty bag towards the Maharaj, said that as a reward, fill this bag with the most valuable thing in the world.

சிற்பி செதுக்கிய அற்புதமான வெற்றித் தூண்!

ஒருமுறை மகாராஜா கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் அண்டை ராஜ்ஜியத்தை வென்ற பிறகு விஜயநகரத்திற்குத் திரும்பினார். அதன் பிறகு வெற்றியை கொண்டாட விழா அறிவித்தார். நகரம் முழுவதும் பெரிய திருவிழா போல் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. இந்த வெற்றியை மறக்க முடியாததாக மாற்ற, மகாராஜா கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயரின் மனதில் ஏன் வெற்றித் தூணை நகரத்தில் கட்டக் கூடாது என்ற எண்ணம் தோன்றியது. தூணை செதுக்க, மகாராஜா உடனடியாக மாநிலத்திலேயே மிகவும் திறமையான கைவினைஞரை அழைத்து அவரிடம் வேலையை ஒப்படைத்தார்.

மகாராஜாவின் கட்டளைப்படி, கைவினைஞரும் தனது பணியில் ஈடுபட்டு, பல வாரங்கள் இரவும் பகலும் வெற்றித் தூணை செதுக்கி முடித்தார். வெற்றித் தூண் கட்டி முடிக்கப்பட்டவுடன் கைவினைஞரின் திறன் அரசவையினர், மகாராஜா, நகர மக்கள் அனைவரையும் கவர்ந்திழுத்தது.

கைவினைஞரின் கைவினைத்திறனைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்த மகாராஜா, அவரை அரசவைக்கு வரவழைத்து உரிய வெகுமதி கேட்டுப் பெறும்படி அழைத்தார். அவர் சொல்வதைக் கேட்ட கைவினைஞர், "அரசே, நீங்கள் என் வேலையை விரும்பினீர்கள், இது எனக்குக் கிடைத்த மிகப்பெரிய வெகுமதியாகும். நீங்கள், எனக்கு அருள் பொழிந்தாலே போதும் வேறொன்றும் தேவை இல்லை" என்றார். கைவினைஞரின் பதிலைக் கேட்டு மகாராஜா மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தார். ஆனாலும் அவர் நிச்சயமாக கைவினைஞருக்கு ஏதாவது வெகுமதி அளிக்க வேண்டும் என்பதில் உறுதியாக இருந்தார். ஏதேனும் ஒரு வெகுமதி கேட்டுப் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளும்படி சிற்பியிடம் மகாராஜா கேட்டுக் கொண்டார்.

மகாராஜாவின் விருப்பத்தை அறிந்ததும், அரசவையில் இருந்த மற்ற பிரபுக்கள், "மகாராஜா உங்களுக்கு ஏதாவது ஒன்றைத்திறந்த மனதுடன் கொடுக்க விருப்பப்படுகிறார். நீங்கள் விரைந்து கேளுங்கள்” என்று கைவினைஞரிடம் சொல்லத் தொடங்கினர். கலையில் நிபுணத்துவம் வாய்ந்தவராக மட்டுமல்லாது, சுயமரியாதையும் புத்திசாலித்தனமும் நிறைந்தவராகக் கைவினைஞர் விளங்கினார். அவர் ஏதாவது கேட்கவில்லை என்றால், மகாராஜா கோபப்படக் கூடும் என்பதை சிற்பி உணர்ந்தார். அதேநேரம் தான் எதையாவது வாங்கிக் கொண்டால், அது தனது சுயமரியாதைக்கும் கொள்கைகளுக்கும் எதிரானதாக மாறிவிடும் என்றும் சிற்பிக்குத் தோன்றியது.

இப்படிப்பட்ட சூழ்நிலையில், சிறிது நேரம் யோசித்துவிட்டு, சிற்பி தன்னுடன் கொண்டு வந்த கருவிப் பையை காலி செய்தார். காலிப் பையை மகாராஜாவை நோக்கி நகர்த்திக் கொண்டே, வெகுமதியாக, உலகில் உள்ள விலைமதிப்பற்ற பொருளை இந்தப் பையில் நிரப்புங்கள் என்றார்.
