Who is the real culprit?
As usual, King Krishnadeva Raya was sitting in his court. Then a shepherd reached there with a complaint. Seeing the shepherd, King Krishnadev Raya asked the reason for his coming to the court. Then the shepherd said, "Your Majesty, a great injustice was done to me. The wall of my neighbour's house collapsed and my goat died underneath it because of its crumbling down. When I asked him for compensation for my dead goat, he is refusing to pay."
Tenali Raman got up from his place and said, "Of course Maharaj the goat was killed because of the collapsed wall, but the neighbour alone cannot be blamed for this.' All the ministers and courtiers present in the court with the king were surprised to hear this point of view of Tenali Raman. The king immediately asked Tenali Raman, "Then according to you who else is the culprit, is it the builder of the wall?"
To this Tenali Raman said, "I do not know that, but if you give me sometime, I will find out and bring out the facts before you." The king liked Tenali Raman's suggestion. He gave time to Tenali Raman to find out the real culprit. Following the king's order, Tenali Raman called the shepherd's neighbour and asked him to give some money to the shepherd in compensation for the dead goat. On hearing this the neighbour of the shepherd said with folded hands, "I am not responsible for this. The building of that wall was done by an Egyptian. In such a situation, he is the real culprit." Tenali Raman felt that the neighbour's opinion is right. So Tenali Raman called the Mason who had built that wall. Mason arrived there, but he too did not admit his fault.

உண்மையான குற்றவாளி யார்?
வழக்கம்போல் அரசர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் அரசவையில் அமர்ந்திருந்தார். அப்போது ஆடு மேய்ப்பன் ஒருவர் புகாருடன் அங்கு வந்தார். மேய்ப்பனைப் பார்த்த மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் அவர் அரசவைக்கு வந்ததற்கான காரணத்தைக் கேட்டார்.
அப்போது மேய்ப்பன், அரசே, எனக்கு மிகப்பெரிய அநீதி இழைக்கப்பட்டது. எனது பக்கத்து வீட்டுச் சுவர் இடிந்து விழுந்ததால் என் ஆடு அதன் அடியில் சிக்கி இறந்துவிட்டது. இறந்துபோன எனது ஆட்டுக்கு இழப்பீடு கேட்டபோது, அவர தர மறுக்கிறார் என்றார்.
தெனாலி ராமன் தன் இடத்தில் இருந்து எழுந்து, நிச்சயமாக மகராஜா சுவர் இடிந்து விழுந்ததால்தான் ஆடு கொல்லப்பட்டது. ஆனால், இதற்கு அண்டை வீட்டாரை மட்டும் குறை சொல்ல முடியாதே என்றார்.
அரசனுடன் அரசவையில் இருந்தஅனைத்து அமைச்சர்களும், அரசவைஉறுப்பினர்களும் தெனாலி ராமனின்இந்தக் கருத்தைக் கேட்டு ஆச்சரியமடைந்தனர். மன்னர் உடனே தெனாலி ராமனிடம்,அப்படியானால் வேறு யார் குற்றவாளி, சுவர் கட்டியவர் தானா என்று கேட்டார்.
அதற்கு தெனாலி ராமன், அது எனக்குத் தெரியாது. ஆனால், எனக்குக் கொஞ்சம் அவகாசம் கொடுத்தால், உண்மையைக் கண்டுபிடித்து உங்கள் முன் கொண்டு வருகிறேன் என்றார். தெனாலி ராமனின் ஆலோசனை அரசருக்குப் பிடித்திருந்தது. உண்மையான குற்றவாளியைக் கண்டறிய தெனாலி ராமனுக்கு அவகாசம் கொடுத்தார்.
மன்னரின் கட்டளைப்படி, தெனாலி ராமன், மேய்ப்பனின் பக்கத்து வீட்டுக்காரனை அழைத்தார். இறந்த ஆட்டுக்கு இழப்பீடாக கொஞ்சம் பணத்தை மேய்ப்பனுக்குத் தரும்படி கேட்டார். இதைக் கேட்ட மேய்ப்பனின் பக்கத்து வீட்டுக்காரர், இதற்கு நான் பொறுப்பல்ல. அந்தச்சுவரைக் கட்டியது ஒரு எகிப்திய நாட்டுக்காரன். ஆகையால் அவன்தான் உண்மையான குற்றவாளி என்று கைகூப்பி கூறினார்.
அண்டை வீட்டாரின் கருத்து சரிஎன்று தெனாலி ராமனுக்குத் தோன்றியது. அதனால் அந்தச் சுவரைக் கட்டிய கொத்தனாரை தெனாலி ராமன் அழைத்தார். கொத்தனார் அங்கு வந்தார். ஆனால்,அவரும் தனது தவறை ஒப்புக்கொள்ளவில்லை.
