Mind Reading
Once, Akbar declared that whoever will be able to read the other person’s mind and voice his thoughts properly will be awarded five thousand gold coins. Astrologers and noblemen from all across the country came to undertake the test but the ministers of Akbar’s court would deny the reward for everyone. They will change their mind at the last minute and even if someone guessed correctly, they would reply “No, No! I was not thinking about this. This is wrong.”
Finally a learned yogi who was an expert in this decided to take up the challenge. He has understood the tricks of the ministers that they did not want anyone to win. So he went directly to Birbal for help. Birbal decided to help him out.
The yogi then went to the court and accepted Akbar’s challenge. When Akbar asked what’s going on in the mind of each nobleman there, the yogi said, “All the ministers are thinking of Akbar’s long life, protection of his throne and well being of the kingdom.” Everyone had to agree to his answer as no one dared to demean the king.
Akbar was very pleased with the yogi and asked him a second question as to what is going in his mind. Yogi using his skills answered that Akbar was thinking about the welfare of his ancestors. Akbar was pleased with the answer and offered him five thousand gold coins as announced.

அடுத்தவர் மனதைப் படித்து, அவரது எண்ணங்களைச் சரியாகக் கூறுபவர்களுக்கு ஐயாயிரம் பொற்காசுகள் வழங்கப்படும் என்று அக்பர் ஒருமுறை அறிவித்தார். நாடு முழுவதிலும் இருந்து ஜோதிடர்களும் பெரிய மனிதர்களும் சோதனைக்கு வந்தனர்.
ஆனால், அக்பரின் அரசவை அமைச்சர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் வெகுமதியை மறுத்துவிட்டனர். அவர்கள் கடைசி நிமிடத்தில் தங்கள் எண்ணத்தை மாற்றிக் கொள்வார்கள், யாராவது சரியாக யூகித்தாலும், அவர்கள் “இல்லை, இல்லை! நான் இதைப் பற்றி சிந்திக்கவில்லை. இது தவறு" என்று கூறிவிடுவார்கள்.
இறுதியாக இதில் நிபுணரான ஒரு கற்றறிந்த யோகி சவாலை ஏற்க முடிவு செய்தார். யாரும் வெற்றி பெற கூடாது என்ற அமைச்சர்களின் தந்திரத்தை அவர் புரிந்து கொண்டார். எனவே அவர் நேரடியாக பீர்பாலிடம் உதவிக்காகச் சென்றார். பீர்பால் அவருக்கு உதவ முடிவு செய்தார்.
யோகி அரசவைக்குச் சென்று அக்பரின் சவாலை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். அங்குள்ள ஒவ்வொரு பிரபுக்கள் மனதில் என்ன நினைக்கிறார்கள் என்று அக்பர் கேட்டபோது, யோகி கூறினார், "அனைத்து மந்திரிகளும் அக்பரின் நீண்ட ஆயுள், அவரது சிம்மாசனத்தின் பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் ராஜ்ஜியத்தின் நலனைப் பற்றி சிந்திக்கிறார்கள்." ராஜாவை இழிவுபடுத்த யாரும் துணியவில்லை என்பதால் அனைவரும் அவருடைய பதிலை ஒப்புக்கொள்ள வேண்டியதாயிற்று.
அக்பர் யோகியை கண்டு மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தார். இப்போது தன் மனதில் ஓடிக்கொண்டிருப்பதைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கும்படி இரண்டாவது கேள்வியை அக்பர் தொடுத்தார். தனது முன்னோர்களின் நலன் குறித்து அக்பர் யோசித்துக் கொண்டிருப்பதாக யோகி பதிலளித்தார். அவரது பதிலால் அகமகிழ்ந்த அக்பர் தான் அறிவித்ததுபோல ஐயாயியரம் பொற்காசுகளைப் பரிசளித்தார்.
