Tenali Raman donates a house!
"We must donate a portion of our wealth to the poor. By God's grace you are provided with houses and properties. Is it possible to donate a portion of your assets to the poor?", the King Krishnadevaraya enquired Raman one day.
“Your remark is very correct. I will make arrangements for donating a house tomorrow”, Raman replied. The king was glad. Raman returned home. He was reluctant to part with anything that came to his possession. He hung a board in one of his houses notifying this.
"The house is to be donated. Anyone who is quiet satisfied with his assets is eligible to get this house".
Many read the board. But nobody came forward to accept the house. At that time a man came there. 'Swamy. Please do me a favour by donating this house to me', he told Raman. "Don't you have a house?", Raman asked the Brahmin. "Yes, I have. But it is small and old".
"Have you read the board in front of the house? The house is to be donated to those who are satisfied with themselves with their assets. You seem to be dissatisfied with yourself, Raman said. The man became silent. He had no answer. He thought for a second, "If I say I am dissatisfied, Raman won't donate me the house'. The man replied. "I am satisfied with what I have'. Raman said "You are satisfied with yourself, isn't it? ‘Yes', the man. 'Then why did you come in search of my house?, Raman raised his doubt. The man was ashamed. He returned empty handed. As none could meet Raman's condition, later nobody came approaching for Raman's donation of his house.

"வீடு தானமாக வழங்கப்பட உள்ளது. எவர் ஒருவர் தனது சொத்துக்களில் திருப்தி அடைகிறாரோ அவர் இந்த வீட்டிற்குத் தகுதியானவர்" என்று அந்த பலகையில் எழுதி வைத்தார்.
பலர் பலகையைப் படித்தார்கள். ஆனால், அந்த வீட்டை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள யாரும் முன்வரவில்லை. அப்போது ஒரு மனிதர் அங்கு வந்தான். சுவாமி! தயவு செய்து இந்த வீட்டை எனக்கு நன்கொடையாகத் தந்து உதவி செய்யுங்கள் என்று ராமனிடம் கூறினான். உனக்கு வீடு இல்லையா என்று தெனாலி ராமன் அந்த மனிதரிடம் கேட்டார். ஆம், என்னிடம் உள்ளது. ஆனால் அது சிறியது மற்றும் பழையது என்றார். வீட்டுக்கு முன்னால் தொங்கும் பலகையை வாசித்தீர்களா? தனது சொத்துக்களால் திருப்தி அடைந்தவர்க்கே வீடு தானம் செய்யப்படும் என்றுதானே எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. உங்களை குறித்து உங்களுக்கு திருப்தி இருப்பதாக தோன்றவில்லையே என்றார் தெனாலி ராமன்.

"நான் திருப்தியடையவில்லை என்று சொன்னால், தெனாலி ராமன் எனக்கு வீட்டை தானம் செய்ய மாட்டார்". அந்த மனிதன், "என்னிடம் இருப்பதில் நான் திருப்தி அடைகிறேன்" என்று பதிலளித்தார். அதற்கு ராமன், "உனக்கு திருப்தியாக இருக்கிறது அல்லவா?
