Mullah Nasruddin was shocked to see such a crowd. He went through the crowd with his donkey, greeted the king and said that he was going to compete. The first scholar was speechless, not knowing what to say. Then the second scholar asked, "How many stars are there in all?" he asked. Mulla replied, "There are as many stars in the sky as much as the hair on my donkey's body. Count it if you want," he said. The second scholar remained speechless.
A third scholar asked the Mulla, "How many are the norms laid down by the wisemen for the people to observe?" said. The Mulla replied, "As many norms as the number of hair in the beards of the three of you, have been laid down by the wisemen for the people.
If you have any doubts about this, tell me. I will pluck the hair from the beards of all three of you and prove that the number is correct,” he said.
When Mulla said this, "No, no. "We accept your answer," the scholars admitted their defeat and submitted their gifts to the Mulla, declaring themselves as slaves of the country.
The King hugged Mulla and thanked him for winning the match. He said that he was ready to give whatever was asked, and immediately said, “Those three scholars should be allowed to go to their country, henceforth they will not compete like this."
The three thanked Mullah and ran away saying that they had escaped. The Mullah's fame spread further.
