Lawyer for oneself, Judge for others!

We are very good lawyers for our own mistakes, and very good judges for the mistakes of others. How? Its very simple, when some one questions you or is giving an opinion about you, if you don’t like it you immediately jump to the defense like a lawyer and start convincing the critic that he is not right and so on and so forth. Just by hearing about something or somebody in respect of others you are quick to form an opinion about others without even knowing both sides of the person and thereby you become a judge.

Mullah Nasruddin did the same once. One day, a neighbour ran into Mulla Nasrudin’s room and asked, “If one man’s dog kills another’s, is the owner of the first dog responsible?” “It depends,” Nasruddin cautiously answered.“Well,” said the man, “your dog has killed mine!“ “Oh,” answered Nasruddin. “Well, everyone knows that a dog can’t think like a human. So obviously, a dog isn’t responsible-and therefore, its owner isn’t responsible either.”

“Excuse me, Judge,” the man interrupted, “I made a mistake. What I meant to say is that my dog has killed yours!”. Judge Nasruddin sat in contemplation for a few moments. “Now that I think about it more carefully,” he announced, “this case is much more complex then I initially thought.” He turned to his assistant and said, “Please bring me that big blue book on the shelf behind you”.

நாம் இழைக்கும் தவறுகளுக்கு மிகவும் சிறந்த வழக்கறிஞராக செயல்படுவோம். அடுத்தவர்கள் செய்த தவறுகள் என்றால் மிகச் சிறந்த நீதிபதிகளாக மாறிவிடுவோம். அது எப்படி? இது மிகவும் எளிது. யாராவது உங்களைக் கேள்வி கேட்கும்போது அல்லது உங்களைப் பற்றி ஒரு கருத்தைக் கூறினால், அது உங்களுக்குப் பிடிக்கவில்லை என்றால், நீங்கள் உடனடியாக ஒரு வழக்கறிஞர் போல வாதாடி, அவர் சரியில்லை என்று விமர்சகரை நம்பவைக்கத் தொடங்குவீர்கள்.

மற்றவர்களைப் பற்றியோ, வேறு விஷயம் குறித்தோ ஏதேனும் கேள்விப்பட்டால், அந்த நபரின் மறுபக்கத்தை தெரிந்து கொள்வதற்கு முன்பாகவே அவர்களை பற்றி அவசரடியாக ஒரு கருத்தை உருவாக்கி, அதன் மூலம் நீங்கள் நீதிபதியாகிவிடுவீர்கள்.

முல்லா நஸ்ருதீனும் அப்படிதான் ஒரு முறை நடந்து கொண்டார். ஒரு நாள், பக்கத்து வீட்டுக்காரர் முல்லா நஸ்ருதீனின் அறைக்குள் ஓடி வந்து, ஒருவரின் நாய் மற்றொருவரின் நாயை கொன்றுவிட்டால், முதல் நாயின் உரிமையாளர் நடந்த சம்பவத்துக்குப் பொறுப்பாவாரா? என்று கேட்டார். அது சூழ்நிலையை பொறுத்தது என்று முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் எச்சரிக்கையுடன் பதிலளித்தார். சரி உங்களுடைய நாய் என்னுடையதைக் கொன்றுவிட்டது! என்றார் பக்கத்து வீட்டுக்காரர்.

அப்படியா? சரி, மனிதனைப் போல நாயால் சிந்திக்க முடியாது என்பது அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும். ஆகையால், நடந்த சம்பவத்துக்கு நாய் பொறுப்பாகாது. அதேபோலதான் அதன் உரிமையாளரும் பொறுப்பல்ல என்றார் முல்லா. ஓ! மன்னிக்கவும் நீதிபதி, நான் தவறுதலாக சொல்லிவிட்டேன். எனது நாய்தான் உங்களுடையதைக் கொன்றுவிட்டது என்பதைதான் சொல்ல வந்தேன் என்றார் பக்கத்து வீட்டுக்காரர்.

இதை கேட்ட முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் சில கணங்கள் ஆழ்ந்த சிந்தனையில் அமர்ந்தார். இப்போது நான் இதைப் பற்றி மிகவும் கவனமாக சிந்திக்கிறேன். இந்த வழக்கு நான் முதலில் நினைத்ததை விட மிகவும் சிக்கலானது என்றார் முல்லா. அடுத்து தனது உதவியாளரை கூப்பிட்டு, தயவுசெய்து உங்கள் பின்னால் உள்ள அலமாரியில் அந்த பெரிய நீல புத்தகத்தை கொண்டு வாருங்கள் என்றார்.
