If you are hell-bent on winning even a losing argument, there is only one way you can do so – by throwing logic to the winds. Which is exactly what Mullah Nasruddin was adept at doing on many occasions and here are some samples for us to think and laugh.

Mullah Nasruddin and Rabbi were travelling through the desert. It was so hot that the air was shimmering. In the distance they saw something black on the ground. Rabbi said, “It’s a vulture.” Mullah said, “No, it’s a goat.” They drew closer to the creature, still arguing over what it was. Rabbi threw a rock at it. It flapped its wings and rose into the air. “See!” said Rabbi. “I told you it was a vulture.” “That doesn’t prove anything,” Mullah quipped. “It could be a goat with wings!”

Likewise, once Mullah secured a job at the bazaar as a porter. The foreman noticed that Mullah carried only one bag of wheat at a time from the cart to the shop while the other porters carried two.

When the foreman questioned Mullah he replied, “I am not so lazy as those fellows who are unwilling to make two trips!”. When we are caught on the wrong foot, the best way to get out of trouble is to give a witty response that will leave the questioner flabbergasted something that Mullah seemed particularly good at.

தோல்வி அடையக்கூடிய வாதத்தில் கூட வெற்றி பெற வேண்டுமானால் தர்க்கத்தை காற்றில் பறக்க விடுவதுதான் ஒரே வழி. முல்லா நஸ்ருதின் பல சந்தர்ப்பங்களில் அதைத்தான் திறமையாக செய்தார்! நாம் சிந்திக்கவும் சிரிக்கவும் அவர் செய்த சில சேட்டைகள் இங்கே உள்ளன.

ஒருமுறை, முல்லா நஸ்ருதீனும் ரபியும்பாலைவனத்தில் பயணம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தனர். கானல் நீர் தோன்றும் அளவுக்கு வெப்பமாக இருந்தது. தூரத்தில் தரையில் ஏதோ கருப்பு நிறத்தில் இருப்பதை இவரும் கண்டனர். அதோ பார் ஒரு கழுகு என்றார் ரபி. இல்லை, அது ஒரு ஆடு என்றார் முல்லா. இருவரும் அந்த உயிரினத்தை நெருங்கியபடியே அது என்னவென்று வாதிட்டனர். அதன் மீது ஒரு கல்லை ரபி வீசினார். அது தன் சிறகுகளை விரித்து காற்றில் பறந்தது. நான் சொன்ன மாதிரி அது கழுகுதான் பார்த்தாயா என்றார் ரபி. அப்படியெல்லாம் சொல்லிவிடமுடியாது. அது இறக்கைகள் கொண்ட ஆடாக கூட இருக்கலாம் என்று வாதிட்டார் முல்லா. இப்படித்தான் முல்லா ஒருமுறை அங்காடியில் மூட்டை தூக்கும் வேலை செய்தார். முல்லா, ஒரு நேரத்தில் ஒரு கோதுமை மூட்டையை மட்டுமே வண்டியில் இருந்து கடைக்கு எடுத்துச் செல்வதையும், மற்ற தொழிலாளர்கள் இரண்டை எடுத்துச் செல்வதையும் மேற்பார்வையாளர் கவனித்தார். இதுபற்றி முல்லாவிடம் மேற்பார்வையாளர் கேள்வி எழுப்பியபோது, இரண்டு முறை நடக்க சுணக்கம் காட்டும் அந்த நபர்களைபோல நான் சோம்பேறி அல்ல என்றார் முல்லா.

நெருக்கடியான சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் சிக்கிக்கொண்டால், சிக்கலில் இருந்து விடுபடுவதற்கான சிறந்த வழி, கேள்வி கேட்பவரை திகைக்க வைக்கும் நகைச்சுவையான பதிலை வழங்குவதே. இது முல்லாவுக்கு கை வந்த கலை.
