Mulla's Positive Thinking!

Mulla Nasrudin was on his way to the palace carrying a sack of potatoes. As he was passing by a local man asked him, “Where are you going?” “I’m taking this gift of potatoes to the new ruler,” Mulla Nasrudin replied. “What?” the man said. “That’s not a suitable gift for a ruler. You should give him something better, like strawberries.” So Mulla Nasrudin went home to get strawberries, and took them to the palace instead.

The ruler, however, was used to receiving much nicer gifts, and ordered his men to throw the strawberries at Mulla Nasrudin as a punishment for giving such a meagre gift. As the strawberries hit him, Mulla Nasrudin began shouting, “Praise be to God! “Hearing Mulla Nasrudin make such a comment so out of its ordinary context, the ruler ordered his men to stop, and curiously asked, “We’re hitting you with the gifts you brought, and now you’re praising God? Explain your behaviour, Mulla.”Nasrudin replied, “I’m thanking God that I didn’t bring you potatoes.”

On returning home Mullah Nasrudin found that his donkey was missing. Mulla Nasrudin was looking for his lost donkey, and at the same time, he was graciously thanking God. A man saw him doing this, and inquired, “Why are you so grateful and happy, after all, you just lost your donkey!” Mulla Nasrudin replied, “I’m glad that I was not riding the donkey when he got lost. Otherwise, I’d be lost, too!”.

முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் உருளைக்கிழங்கு மூட்டையை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அரண்மனைக்கு சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார். அரண்மனையை நோக்கி அவர் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தபோது, அந்த வழியில் சென்ற ஒரு உள்ளூர் நபர் முல்லா நஸ்ரூதினிடம், நீங்கள் எங்கே போகிறீர்கள் என்று கேட்டார். புதிய ஆட்சியாளருக்கு இந்த உருளைக்கிழங்குகளை பரிசளிக்க எடுத்துச் செல்கிறேன் என்று முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் பதிலளித்தார். என்ன இவற்றையா? இது ஆட்சியாளருக்கு ஏற்ற பரிசு அல்ல. நீங்கள் அவருக்கு ஸ்ட்ராபெரி பழங்களை போன்று இதைக்காட்டிலும் சிறந்த ஒன்றை பரிசாகக் கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று அறிவுரை வழங்கினார் அந்த வழிப்போக்கர்.

எனவே முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் வீட்டிற்கு திரும்பி சென்று ஸ்ட்ராபெர்ரி பழங்களை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அரண்மனைக்கு சென்றார். ஆனால், ஆட்சியாளரோ மிகவும் நேர்த்தியான பரிசுகளைப் பெற்று பழகிவிட்டவர். ஆகையால், முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் இத்தகைய அற்ப பரிசை வழங்கியதற்குத் தண்டனையாக ஸ்ட்ராபெரி பழங்களை அவர் மீதே வீசி எரியுமாறு தனது ஆட்களுக்கு உத்தரவிட்டார். ஸ்ட்ராபெரி பழங்கள் முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் மேல் வந்து விழத் தொடங்கியதும் கடவுளே போற்றி! என்று முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் கத்தத் தொடங்கினார்.

இத்தகைய அசாதாரண சூழ்நிலைக்கு முற்றிலும் தொடர்பற்ற கருத்தை முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் வெளிப்படுத்தியதைக் கேட்டு, முல்லாவை நோக்கி ஸ்ட்ராபெரி பழங்களை வீசுவதை நிறுத்தும்படி ஆட்சியாளர் தனது ஆட்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார். நீங்கள் கொண்டு வந்த பரிசுகளால் நாங்கள் உங்களைத் தாக்குகிறோம், இப்போதும் நீங்கள் கடவுளைப் புகழ்கிறீர்களா? உங்கள் நடத்தையை எங்களுக்கு விளக்க முடியுமா முல்லா என்று ஆச்சரியம் மேலோங்க ஆட்சியாளர் கேட்டார். அதற்கு முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன், உங்களுக்காக உருளைக்கிழங்கு கொண்டு வராததற்கு நான் கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி கூறுகிறேன் என்றார்.
