God’s Servant
Mullah Nasruddin was sitting at a roadside cafe, eating a frugal meal of rice and beans, which was all he could afford. Idly watching people walking past the cafe, Nasruddin noticed a tall, well-built, and stylish man who stood out amongst the crowd. Sporting a purple velvet turban, tastefully embroidered vest, finely tailored silk shirt, baggy satin trousers, and a gold scimitar tucked into a broad gold belt, the stranger was making heads turn as he strutted down the street.
Pointing to the immaculately dressed man, Nasruddin asked the restaurateur: “Who is that?”
“He works for Sultan Ali in Beysehir,” the restaurant owner replied. Mullah Nasruddin sighed heavily, turned his eyes heavenwards, and said: “Dear Lord, I hope you are noticing the difference in the lifestyle of Sultan Ali’s servant over there and your own servant here! Don’t you think that poverty is a high price for your followers to pay?”

முல்லா நஸ்ருதீன் சாலையோர உணவகத்தில் உட்கார்ந்து அரிசிமற்றும் பீன்ஸ் என்ற சிக்கனமான உணவை சாப்பிட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். மக்கள் உணவகத்தை கடந்து செல்வதை சும்மா பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்த நஸ்ருதீன், கூட்டத்தின் மத்தியில் தனித்து நின்ற ஒரு உயரமான, நல்ல கட்டுக்கோப்பான மற்றும் நேர்த்தியான உடல் வாகு கொண்ட மனிதரைக் கவனித்தார்.
ஊதா நிற வெல்வெட் தலைப்பாகை, ரசனை உடன் பூ வேலைப்பாடு செய்யப்பட்ட மேல் உடுப்பு, நேர்த்தியாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்ட பட்டுச் சட்டை, தொளதொளவென தைக்கப்பட்ட சாட்டின் கால்சட்டை மற்றும் ஒரு அகலமான தங்க ஒட்டியானத்தில் செருகப்பட்ட ஒரு தங்க குறுவாள் ஆகியவற்றை அணிந்துகொண்டு, முன்பின் அறிந்திடாத அந்த நபர் தெருவில் உலாவிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.
கச்சிதமான ஆடை அணிந்திருந்த அந்த மனிதரைச் சுட்டிக்காட்டி, நஸ்ருதீன் உணவகத்தின் உரிமையாளரிடம் "அது யார்?" என்று விசாரித்தார்.
அவர் சுல்தான் அலியின் சேவகன் என்று உணவகத்தின் உரிமையாளர் பதிலளித்தார். முல்லாநஸ்ருதீன் பெருமூச்சு விட்டபடி, தன் கண்களை வானத்தை நோக்கித் திருப்பிக் கொண்டு கூறினார்: “அன்புள்ள ஆண்டவரே, அங்குஉலாவும் சுல்தான் அலியின் சேவகனுக்கும் இங்கு வாழும் உங்களுடைய சொந்த சேவகனுக்கும் உள்ள வித்தியாசத்தை நீங்கள் கவனிக்கிறீர்கள் என்று நம்புகிறேன்! உங்களைப் பின்தொடர்பவர்கள் செலுத்துவதற்கு வறுமை அதிகவிலை என்று நீங்கள் நினைக்கவில்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார்.(தொடரும்) - கட்டுரையாளர்: ஆங்கிலத் துறை முன்னாள் உதவிப் பேராசிரியர்
