Flood Relief and Rescue
Once upon a time, there was a terrible flood in Vijayanagar, the kingdom of Maharaja Krishnadeva Raya. Many villages of the state were submerged in this flood. Due to this, the state suffered a lot. When Maharaj Krishnadeva Raya came to know about this natural calamity, he immediately ordered a minister to help the people affected by the floods and said, 'All the money needed to cover the damage caused by the floods, get it out of the royal treasury. All the victims should be helped as soon as possible'. Along with this, Krishnadeva Raya also asked the minister to repair the broken bridge, road and people's houses due to floods.
The minister took out a lot of money from the royal treasury as per the Maharaj's order and disappeared for a long time. Finding the minister was not available for a long time, the Maharaj and other courtiers felt that the minister must be busy helping the flood victims, and hence he did not appear for such a long time.
However, Tenali Raman could not digest the long disappearance of the minister. So Tenali Raman made up his mind to know the reality behind the minister's disappearance. Since then, Tenali Raman would reach the court as usual during the day and visit all the villages in the state at night to inspect the relief work.
After a few weeks, one day the minister appeared in the court and began to exaggerate his work done in the village in front of Maharaja Krishnadeva Raya. Hearing all this, the Maharaj and the other ministers present in the court were very happy. Everyone greatly appreciated the work of the minister. At the same time, Tenali Raman also praised the minister which surprised everyone. After some time when the work at the court was over all the courtiers went to their respective homes, but Tenali Raman remained silent at his place there.
Seeing Tenali Raman in this condition, Maharaja Krishnadevaraya asked, 'Rama, why didn't you go home, what's the matter?'
To this, Tenali Raman said, 'The relief and rescue work done by the Minister in the state has its place, but if you meet the people, they will be more than happy.'
Maharaj liked this idea of Tenali Raman. He decided to visit the flood affected areas with Tenali Raman the very next day itself.

மன்னரின் ஆணைக்கு பிறகு அரச கருவூலத்தில் இருந்து நிறையப் பணத்தை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு சென்ற அமைச்சர் வெகு நாட்களாக காணவில்லை. மந்திரி நீண்ட நாட்கள் கண்ணுக்குத் தென்படாததால், அமைச்சர் வெள்ளத்தால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு உதவி செய்வதில் மும்முரமாக இருப்பார் என்று மன்னரும் மற்ற பிரபுக்களும் கருதினர்.
ஆனால், அமைச்சர் நீண்ட நாட்களாக தலைமறைவாக இருப்பதை தெனாலி ராமனால் ஜீரணிக்க முடியவில்லை. எனவே அமைச்சர் பதுங்கி இருப்பதற்கு பின்னால் உள்ள உண்மையை அறிய தெனாலி ராமன் உறுதி கொண்டார். அப்போதிலிருந்து, தெனாலி ராமன் பகலில் வழக்கம்போல் நீதிமன்றத்திற்கு வந்து, இரவில் மாநிலத்தின் அனைத்து கிராமங்களுக்கும் சென்று நிவாரணப் பணிகளை ஆய்வு செய்வார்.
சில வாரங்களுக்குப் பிறகு, ஒரு நாள் மந்திரி அரசவையில் ஆஜராகி, மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவராயர் முன்பாக கிராமத்தில் செய்த வேலையை மிகைப்படுத்தத் தொடங்கினார். இதையெல்லாம் கேட்ட மன்னரும், அரசவையில் இருந்த மற்ற அமைச்சர்களும் மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தனர். அமைச்சரின் பணியை அனைவரும் வெகுவாக பாராட்டினர். அதே சமயம், தெனாலி ரானும் அமைச்சரைப் பாராட்டினார். இது அனைவரையும் ஆச்சரியப்படுத்தியது. சிறிது நேரம் கழித்து அரசவை வேலை முடிந்தது. அரசவை உறுப்பினர்கள் அனைவரும் அவரவர் வீடுகளுக்குச் சென்றனர். ஆனால், தெனாலி ராமன் அங்கேயே அமைதியாக இருந்தார்.
இந்த நிலையில் தெனாலி ராமனைப் பார்த்த மன்னர், “ராமா ஏன் வீட்டுக்குப் போகவில்லை, என்ன விஷயம்?” என்று விசாரித்தார்.
இதற்கு தெனாலி ராமன், “மாநிலத்தில் அமைச்சர் செய்த நிவாரணம் மற்றும் மீட்புப் பணிகளுக்கு சிறப்பு இடம் உண்டு. அதே நேரம், மக்களைச் சந்தித்தால் அவர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைவார்களே” என்றார்.
