Tenali Raman the Detective
King Krishnadeva Raya was so fond of always wearing a precious gemstone ring. But one day Maharaj was sitting very sad in his court. He was noticed Tenali Raman. He came to the king and asked the reason for the king's sadness. The king reveals that his most precious ring has been stolen and that the thief is one of his bodyguards. Hearing the king's words, Tenali called all the bodyguards of the king and said, “I know that the ring thief of Maharaj is one of you. He who is innocent has nothing to fear, but he who is guilty should be ready to face the punishment. You all go with me to the temple of Kali Mata.”
The king was surprised to hear this from Tenali and said, “Why go to the temple to catch the thief?”
Tenali said, “Your Majesty, be patient. The thief will be found in the temple itself.”
Everyone reached the temple. Tenali first went inside the temple and said something in the ears of the priest. Then Tenali came out and asked the bodyguards to come one by one by touching the feet of Kali Mata. Tenali also told everyone that tonight Maa Kali would come in his dream and tell the name of the thief. Hearing Tenali's words, all the bodyguards went inside the temple one by one and came out after touching the feet of Kali Maa. As the bodyguards came out, Tenali sniffed their hands and made them stand in the queue. Then Tenali said that the bodyguard standing in the seventh position is the thief. On hearing this, the bodyguard started running, but by then other bodyguards caught him. Everyone was surprised how Tenali came to know that this is the thief. Tenali told everyone, 'As soon as I came to the temple, I spoke to the priest and told him to apply perfume at the feet of the idol of Kali Maa. Because of which whosoever touched the feet of Kali Maa, the fragrance would spread in his hands. But when I smelled the hands of the bodyguard standing in the seventh position, there was no fragrance in it. He did not even touch the feet of Kali Maa for fear of being caught. So it was easy to know that he was the real thief. The king was very happy to hear Tenali and honored Tenali with many gifts. Whoever does a wrong deed, definitely will face the consequences. A person who does evil deeds can never be saved.
துப்பறிவாளன் தெனாலி ராமன்
மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் மிகுந்த பிரியத்துடன் தனது விலைமதிப்பற்ற ரத்தின மோதிரத்தை எப்போதுமே அணிந்துவந்தார். ஒரு நாள் மகாராஜா தனது அவையில் மிகவும் சோகமாக அமர்ந்திருந்தார். இதனை தெனாலி ராமன் கவனித்தார். மன்னரின் வருத்தத்துக்கான காரணத்தை தெனாலி கேட்டார். ராஜா தனது விலைமதிப்பற்ற மோதிரம் திருடப்பட்டதையும், திருடன் தனது மெய்க்காப்பாளர்களில் ஒருவன் என்பதையும் வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார். மன்னனின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்ட தெனாலி ராமன், மெய்க்காவலர்கள் அனைவரையும் அழைத்து, மகாராஜாவின் மோதிரத் திருடன் உங்களில் ஒருவன் என்பது எனக்குத் தெரியும்.நிரபராதியானவன் பயப்பட வேண்டியதில்லை, ஆனால் குற்றவாளி தண்டனையை எதிர்கொள்ளத் தயாராக இருக்க வேண்டும். நீங்கள் அனைவரும் என்னுடன் காளி கோயிலுக்கு வாருங்கள் என்றார். திருடனைப் பிடிக்க ஏன் கோயிலுக்கு செல்ல வேண்டும் என்று மன்னர் ஆச்சரியத்துடன் தெனாலியிடம் கேட்டார். அதற்கு தெனாலி, அரசே, பொறுமையாக இருங்கள். திருடனைக் கோயிலிலேயே கண்டுபிடித்து விடுவேன் என்றார்.
அனைவரும் கோயிலை அடைந்தனர். தெனாலி முதலில் கோவிலுக்குள் சென்று பூசாரியின் காதில் ஏதோ சொன்னார். பின்னர் தெனாலி வெளியே வந்து காளியின் பாதங்களைத் தொட்டுவிட்டு மெய்க்காப்பாளர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவராக வரச் சொன்னார். தனது கனவில் அன்றிரவு காளி தோன்றி திருடனின் பெயரை சொல்லிவிடுவார் என்றும் தெனாலி மெய்க்காப்பளர்களிடம் கூறினார். தெனாலி சொன்னபடி ஒவ்வொருவரும் காளியின் பாதங்களை தொட்டு விட்டு வெளியே வந்தனர். அப்போது தெனாலி அவர்களின் கைகளை முகர்ந்து அவர்களை வரிசையில் நிற்க வைத்தார். பிறகு ஏழாம் இடத்தில் நிற்கும் மெய்க்காப்பாளன்தான் திருடன் என்றார் தெனாலி. இதைக் கேட்ட மெய்க்காப்பாளன் ஓடத் தொடங்கினான். ஆனால், அதற்குள் மற்ற மெய்க்காவலர்கள் அவனைப் பிடித்தனர்.
