How did the Diamonds look?
When Maharaj asked Nandu’s master regarding the diamonds, he replied, “Yes, it is true that the other day we found diamonds in the back yard of the temple. I had asked Nandu to deliver those diamonds to the treasury. Then two days later, when I asked him for the receipt for depositing the diamonds, he panicked and came straight out of my house to you. Since then he has been telling you all this false story".
Then Maharaj asked the owner of the mill, "Did you give him diamonds in front of anyone?"
Nandu's master said, "Yes, sir, I had given the bundle of diamonds in front of my three servants."
On knowing this, King Krishnadeva Raya called all three of them. The servants testified against Nandu as soon as they reached the court, saying that their master had given the diamonds to Nandu in front of them.
Then Maharaj started consulting his ministers in private. First of all, King Krishnadeva Raya said that I think Nandu is true. His other ministers said that Maharaj, we cannot ignore those witnesses. Then King Krishnadeva Raya, looking at Tenali Raman, gestured and asked what he had to say. Smiling Tenali Raman said, “I will find out the truth and the lie now. You guys just have to sit behind the curtain for sometime.”
The king did exactly the same after listening to Tenali Raman. The other ministers also sat behind the curtain looking at the king. Now Tenali Raman called the first witness and asked about the diamond. He gave the same old answer. Then Tenali Raman said, “tell me how did those diamonds look? Can you show their size on this paper?” The witness said that they were in a bag, so don't know how they looked.
Tenali Raman called the second witness by asking the first witness to stay the same and asked the same question. The second witness said, "I saw both those diamonds."
Then the third witness appeared in front of Tenali Raman and in reply said that the diamonds were wrapped in a paper, so he did not see them.
The king sitting behind the curtain had listened to the words of the three witnesses. It was clear from everyone's different versions that Nandu was telling the truth and his master was lying.
King Krishnadeva sent his soldiers to the mill owner’s house and they found diamonds in his house. Then Maharaj imposed a fine of twenty five thousand gold coins on the mill owner and arrested him. Out of that, the king gave 10 thousand gold coins to Nandu.
வைரக்கற்கள் பார்க்க எப்படி இருந்தன?
வைரக்கற்கள் குறித்து நந்துவின் முதலாளியிடம் மன்னர் கேட்டபோது, ஆம், அன்று கோயிலின் பின்பகுதியில் ஒரு வைரம் கிடைத்தது உண்மைதான். அந்த வைரங்களை கருவூலத்தில் ஒப்படைக்க நந்துவிடம் சொன்னேன். இரண்டு நாட்களுக்குப் பிறகு நான் அவனிடம் வைரங்களை ஒப்படைத்ததற்கான ரசீதைக் கேட்டபோது, அவன் பீதியடைந்து நேராக என் வீட்டை விட்டு உங்களிடம் ஓடி வந்தான். அன்றிலிருந்து இந்த பொய்க் கதையை தங்களிடம் சொல்லி வருகிறான் என்றார்.
அப்போது மன்னர் ஆலை முதலாளியிடம், "யாரேனும் முன்னிலையில் வைரக்கற்களை கொடுத்தீர்களா?" என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு எஜமானர், “ஆமாம், ஐயா, என்னுடைய மூன்று வேலையாட்கள் முன்னிலையில் அந்த வைர மூட்டையைக் கொடுத்தேன்” என்றார். இதை அறிந்த மன்னர் அவர்கள் மூவரையும் அழைத்தார். தங்கள் முன்னிலையில் நந்துவிடும் எஜமானர் வைரங்களை கொடுத்ததாகக் கூறி, அவர்கள் மூவரும் நந்துவுக்கு எதிராக சாட்சியம் அளித்தனர்.
பிறகு தனது அமைச்சர்களுடன் தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் அரசர் ஆலோசனை நடத்தத் தொடங்கினார். நந்து உண்மை சொல்வதாகவே தான் நினைப்பதாக மன்னர் கூறினார். ஆனால் மூன்று சாட்சிகளை புறக்கணிக்க முடியாதே என்று அமைச்சர்கள் கூறினார்கள். அப்போது அரசர் கிருஷ்ணதேவராயர், தெனாலி ராமனை பார்த்து, சைகை செய்து என்ன சொல்ல வேண்டும் என்று கேட்டார். இனி உண்மையையும் பொய்யையும் கண்டுபிடிப்பேன் என்று சிரித்தபடி தெனாலி ராமன் கூறினார். நீங்கள் சிறிது நேரம் திரைக்குப் பின்னால் உட்கார வேண்டும் என்றார்.
தெனாலி ராமின் சொன்னபடியே மன்னர் செய்தார். மற்ற அமைச்சர்களும் திரைக்குப் பின்னால் அமர்ந்து அரசரைப் பார்த்தனர். இப்போது தெனாலி ராமன் முதல் சாட்சியை அழைத்து வைரம் பற்றி கேட்டார். பழைய பதிலையே அவர் சொன்னார். அப்போது தெனாலி ராமன், அந்த வைரக் கற்கள் எப்படி இருந்தன? இந்தக் காகிதத்தில் அவற்றின் அளவை வரைந்து காட்ட முடியுமா? என கேட்டார். வைரக்கற்கள் ஒரு பையில் இருந்ததால் என்படி இருந்தன என்று தெரியவில்லை என்று முதல் சாட்சி கூறினார்.
அடுத்து, இரண்டாவது சாட்சியை அழைத்து அதே கேள்வியை தெனாலி ராமன் கேட்டார். இரண்டாவது சாட்சி, "நான் அந்த இரண்டு வைரக்கற்களையும் பார்த்தேன்" என்றார். அடுத்ததாக தெனாலி ராமனுக்கு முன்பாக ஆஜரான மூன்றாவது சாட்சி, வைரங்கள் காகிதத்தில் சுற்றப்பட்டிருந்ததால் பார்க்கவில்லை என்றார்.
திரைக்குப் பின்னால் அமர்ந்திருந்த அரசன் மூன்று சாட்சிகளின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டார். முன்னுக்கு பின் முரணாக மூவரும் அளித்த சாட்சியத்திலிருந்து நந்து சொல்வது உண்மை என்றும் அவருடைய எஜமானர் பொய் சொல்கிறார் என்றும் தெரிந்தது. ஆலை முதலாளியின் வீட்டை சோதனையிடும்படி தனது படை வீரர்களுக்கு மன்னர் கட்டளையிட்டார். வைரக்கற்களும் அவரது வீட்டில் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டன. ஆலை முதலாளிக்கு இருபத்து ஐந்தாயிரம் பொற்காசுகள் அபராதம் விதித்து சிறை தண்டனையும் மன்னர் விதித்தார். அதில் 10 ஆயிரம் பொற்காசுகளை நந்துவுக்கு மன்னர் வழங்கினார்.
