Two hands full of smoke
After King Krishnadeva Raya pointed towards the incense stick and said bring two hands full of smoke for me all the courtiers tried their hand to prove their cleverness. But no one could measure the smoke. As soon as someone tried to measure the smoke, the smoke would fly out of their hands.
When all the courtiers gave up, one of the courtiers said, "Your Majesty! According to us, smoke cannot be measured. Yes, if Tenali Raman can do this, we will consider him more intelligent than us, but if he is not able to do that, then you have to treat him like us.” The king smiled and said, 'What Tenali Rama! are your ready?" To this, Tenali Raman bowed his head and said, "Your Majesty! I have always followed your orders. I will definitely do this this time too."
After this Tenali Raman called a servant and said something in his ear. Hearing his words, the servant immediately went out of the court. There was silence all around in the court. Everyone was rushing to see how Tenali Raman could bring two hands full of smoke to the king. Then everyone’s eyes fell on the servant, who had come back to the court with a two-handed long tube made of glass.
Tenali Raman put the mouth of that glass tube on the smoke coming out of the incense stick. Within no time the entire glass tube was filled with smoke and Tenali Raman quickly closed the tube with a cloth over its mouth and pointed it towards the Maharaj, saying, "Your Majesty! Take two hands full of this smoke with your two hands." Seeing this, a smile came on Maharaj's face and he took the hose from Tenali Raman and looked towards the courtiers.
Everyone's heads were bowed in shame seeing Tenali Raman's cleverness. Some courtiers were also in favor of Tenali Raman. They all had respect for Tenali Raman. Seeing Tenali Raman's intelligence and shrewdness, the king said, "Now you must have understood that it is not possible to match Tenali Raman." In response, the courtiers could not say anything and they silently bowed their heads.
We should respect the wisdom of others and should not be jealous of someone's cleverness.
இரண்டு கைப்பிடி நிறைய புகை
மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் ஊதுபத்தியை காட்டி, தனக்கு இரண்டு கைப்பிடி நிறைய புகையைக் கொண்டு வந்து தரும்படி கட்டளையிட்டதும் அரசவை உறுப்பினர்கள் அனைவரும் தங்கள் புத்திசாலித்தனத்தை நிரூபிக்க முயன்றனர். ஆனால், யாராலும் புகையை அளவிட முடியவில்லை. யாரேனும் புகையை அளக்க முற்பட்ட உடனே அவர்களின் கைகளில் இருந்து புகை வெளியேறியது.
அரசவையினர் அனைவரும் தங்களது தோல்வியை ஒப்புக் கொண்ட பிறகு, அரசவையினரில் ஒருவர், “அரசே! எங்களைப் பொறுத்தவரை, புகையை அளவிட முடியாது. ஆம், தெனாலி ராமனால் இதைச் செய்ய முடிந்தால், அவர் எங்களைவிட புத்திசாலி என்று ஏற்றுக் கொள்வோம். ஆனால், அவராலும் அது முடியவில்லை என்றால், நீங்கள் அவரை எங்களைப் போலவே நடத்த வேண்டும்” என்றார். மன்னர் சிரித்துக் கொண்டே, “என்ன தெனாலி ராமா! நீ தயாரா?" என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு தெனாலி ராமன் பணிவுடன், “அரசே! நான் எப்பொழுதும் உங்கள் கட்டளைகளைப் பின்பற்றுவதையே வழக்கமாக வைத்திருக்கிறேன். இந்த முறையும் இதை நிச்சயமாக செய்வேன்” என்றார்.
இதற்குப் பிறகு தெனாலி ராமன் வேலைக்காரனை கூப்பிட்டு அவர் காதில் ஏதோ சொன்னார். அதைக் கேட்டு, வேலைக்காரன் உடனடியாக அரசவையை விட்டு வெளியேறினார். அரசவையை சுற்றிலும் அமைதி நிலவியது. தெனாலி ராமன் இரண்டு கையளவு புகையை ராஜாவுக்கு எப்படி கொண்டு வந்து தருகிறார் என்று பார்க்க அனைவரும் விரைந்தனர். அப்போது அனைவரின் பார்வையும் கண்ணாடியால் செய்யப்பட்ட இரண்டு கை நீண்ட, நீளமான குழாயுடன் மீண்டும் அரசவைக்குள் வந்த வேலைக்காரன் மீது விழுந்தது.
அந்த கண்ணாடிக் குழாயின் வாயை ஊதுபத்தியில் இருந்து வெளிவரும் புகையை நோக்கி தெனாலி ராமன் வைத்தார். சிறிது நேரத்தில் கண்ணாடிக் குழாய் முழுவதும் புகையால் நிரம்பியது. தெனாலி ராமன் வேகமாக குழாயின் வாயை ஒரு துணியால் மூடி, மன்னரிடம், "அரசே! இந்த புகையை இரண்டு கையளவு வாங்கிக் கொள்ளுங்கள்" என்றார். இதைப் பார்த்த மன்னர் முகத்தில் புன்னகை ஏற்பட, தெனாலி ராமனிடமிருந்து குழாயை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அரவையினரை நோக்கிப் பார்த்தார்.
தெனாலி ராமனின் சாமர்த்தியத்தைக் கண்டு அனைவரும் வெட்கித் தலைகுனிந்தனர். அதேநேரம் அரசவையினரில் சிலர்தெனாலி ராமனுக்கு ஆதரவாகவும் இருந்தனர். அவர்களுக்கு தெனாலி ராமன் மீது மரியாதையும் இருந்தது. தெனாலி ராமனின் புத்திசாலித்தனத்தையும் சாதுரியத்தையும் பார்த்த மன்னன், “தெனாலி ராமனுக்கு இணையாக முடியாது என்பது இப்போது புரிந்திருக்கும்” என்றார். பதிலுக்கு, அரசவையினர் எதுவும் சொல்ல முடியாமல் அமைதியாக தலை குனிந்தனர். நாம் மற்றவர்களின் அறிவுக்கு மதிப்பளிக்க வேண்டும், இன்னொருவரின் புத்திசாலித் தனத்தைக் கண்டு பொறாமைப்படக்கூடாது.
