Maharaj was very happy and said this bird looks beautiful in sight. I will definitely buy it and you will be given a fair reward. Saying this the king gave fifty gold coins to the fowler and also ordered to keep the bird in the royal garden. Seeing this, Tenali Raman could not stop and he got up and said, Sir, I do not think that this bird can dance like a peacock. I also think that this bird has not even bathed for many years.

On hearing this, the fowler got scared and said with a crying face, sir, I am a very poor fowler. My house runs only after catching birds and selling them. As much as I know animals and birds, it does not need proof and should not be doubted. Of course, I am poor, but that doesn't mean Tenali Raman can call me a liar.

Hearing this, Maharaj also got angry on Tenali Raman and ordered him to prove his point.

Then Tenali brought water in a jug and poured it on the caged bird and all the color on it came off. The color of the caged bird turned light brown. The king was shocked and Tenali Raman told this is a wild pigeon and not a strange bird.

Maharaj asked, 'Tenali Raman how did you come to know that this bird has been painted?'

Tenali Raman replied, 'Maharaj, look at the nails of the hunter. The color of the colored nails of a fowler and that of a bird is the same. From this it is known that the fowler had painted the bird. Seeing all this, Fowler was about to run away. The soldiers caught him. The king ordered him to be taken prisoner and gave his gold coins to Tenali Raman. Tenali requested the king to forgive the hunter who tried to cheat because of his poverty.

இதைக் கேட்டதும் பயந்து போய் அழுத முகத்துடன், ஐயா, நான் மிகவும் ஏழ்மையான வேட்டைக்காரன். பறவைகளைப் பிடித்து விற்றுதான் எனது குடும்பமே பிழைப்பு நடத்துகிறது. விலங்குகள் மற்றும் பறவைகள் பற்றி நான் அறிந்தவரை அவற்றுக்கு ஆதாரம் தேவையில்லை, சந்தேகப்படக்கூடாது. நிச்சயமாக, நான் ஏழைதான். அதற்காக தெனாலி ராமன் என்னை பொய்சொல்லி என்று குற்றம் சுமத்தலாமா?

இதைக் கேட்ட மகாராஜாவும் தெனாலி ராமன் மீது கோபம் கொண்டு தான் வைத்த குற்றச்சாட்டை நிரூபிக்கும்படி உத்தரவிட்டார். இதை கேட்ட தெனாலி ராமன் ஒரு சொம்பு நிறைய தண்ணீரைக் கொண்டு வந்து கூண்டில் அடைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த பறவையின் மீது ஊற்ற பறவை மீதிருந்த வண்ணம் முழுவதும் வெளுத்துவிட்டது. கூண்டில் அந்த கூண்டுப் பறவை வெளிர் பழுப்பு நிறமாக மாறிப்போனது. மன்னன் அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தார். இது காட்டுப் புறா, விசித்திரமான பறவையல்ல என்றார் தெனாலி ராமன். இந்தப் பறவை வர்ணம் பூசப்பட்டது என்பது உனக்கு எப்படித் தெரிந்தது என்று கேட்டார் மகாராஜா.

அதற்கு தெனாலி ராமன், வேட்டைக்காரனின் நகங்களைப் பாருங்கள் மகாராஜா. பறவையின் வண்ணமும் வேட்டைக்காரனின் நகங்களின் நிறமும் ஒன்றுபோல உள்ளனவே. இதிலிருந்து வேட்டைக்காரன் பறவைக்கு வண்ணம் தீட்டியது தெரிய வருகிறது. இதையெல்லாம் பார்த்த வேட்டைக்காரன் ஓட முற்பட்டான். காவலர்கள் வேட்டைக்காரனை பிடித்தனர். அரசன் அவனை சிறையிலடைக்க உத்தரவிட்டார். அவனுடைய பொற்காசுகளை தெனாலி ராமனிடம் கொடுத்தார். தனது வறுமையின் காரணமாக ஏமாற்ற முயன்ற வேட்டைக்காரனை மன்னிக்கும்படி தெனாலி மன்னனிடம் வேண்டினார்.
