THE DANGERS OF HASTINESS
Maharaj Krishnadev used to camp outside the city every year during the cold season. During this time the Maharaj and some of his courtiers and soldiers used to stay with him in tents. Leaving all the affairs of the state aside, during those days the gatherings of songs and music were enjoyed and sometimes were narrated by all in turn.
On one such pleasant evening the idea of going hunting came to the mind of Maharaj. Maharaj started the preparations for the hunt by asking the courtiers to get ready. After this, the very next morning Maharaj started going out for hunting along with other courtiers and some soldiers.
Tenaliram was dear to Maharaj, he also asked him to accompany him on the hunt. Listening to Maharaj, a courtier said, "Let it be, Maharaj, Tenaliram is old and if he goes hunting, he will soon get tired." Everyone started laughing after listening to the courtier, but Tenaliram did not say anything. In this, the Maharaja asked Tenaliram to ignore the words of the courtiers and go hunting with them.
At the behest of Maharaj, Tenaliram also rode on a horse and left with the convoy. After some time Maharaj's convoy reached the middle of the forest. While looking for prey, Maharaj saw a deer nearby. As soon as the king mounted the arrow to target the deer, the deer started running from there and Maharaj started following him on his horse.
Seeing Maharaj going after the deer, Tenaliram along with other courtiers also started following Maharaj. As soon as Maharaj targeted the deer, he started going into thick bushes. Maharaj started going after the deer in the bushes to target. Then Tenaliram shouted to Maharaj to stop from behind.
Maharaj's attention was distracted by Tenaliram's voice and he missed his target. As soon as the deer entered the bushes, Maharaj turned and looked at Tenaliram with anger. Maharaj scolded Tenaliram and asked why he did not let him go into the bushes. Angry, King Krishnadev said that it is because of Tenali he missed hunting the deer after so much chasing.
Tenaliram remained silent even after hearing Maharaj's scolding. When Maharaj became calm, Tenaliram asked a soldier to climb a tree and look across the bushes. At the behest of Tenaliram, the soldier saw that the deer that Maharaj was chasing was trapped in the thorny bushes and was bleeding badly. Only after trying for a long time, the deer was able to get out of those thorn bushes, staggered and ran towards the forest.
Descending from the tree, the soldier narrated to the Maharaj with excitement. Maharaj was very shocked to hear the soldier's description of the deer's struggle which was caught up in the thorny bush. He called Tenaliram nearby and asked him if he already knew that there were thorn bushes there. Listening to the Maharaja, Tenaliram said, “There are many such bushes in the forest, which can leave a person dead by bleeding. I suspected that there might be more such ‘predatory bushes' in the forest further ahead of us."
After listening to Tenaliram, Maharaj was once again convinced of his wisdom. Looking at the other courtiers, Maharaj said that you did not want Tenaliram to come on the hunt, but today my life is saved because of him. The Maharaj patted Tenali Ram on the back and said that there is no match for your intelligence and understanding.
Hasty steps can at times harm us. Thenali has pointed to all that, therefore, considering the situation and the things around, one should act wisely.

தெனாலிராம் மகாராஜா திட்டுவதைக் கேட்ட பிறகும் அமைதியாக இருந்தார். மகாராஜா அமைதியடைந்ததும், தெனாலிராம் ஒரு சிப்பாயை ஒரு மரத்தின் மீது ஏறி புதர்களை கவனிக்க சொன்னார். தெனாலிராமின் உத்தரவின் பேரில், மகாராஜா துரத்திச் சென்ற மான்முட்புதரில் சிக்கி ரத்தம் கொட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்ததை ராணுவ வீரர் பார்த்தார். நீண்ட நேரமுயற்சிக்கு பிறகுதான் அந்த முட்புதரில் இருந்துவெளியே வர முடிந்த அந்த மான், நிலைதடுமாறி காட்டை நோக்கி ஓடியது.
மரத்திலிருந்து இறங்கிய சிப்பாய் உற்சாகத்துடன் மகாராஜிடம் விவரித்தார். முட்புதரில் சிக்கிய மானின் போராட்டத்தைப் பற்றி சிப்பாய் சொன்னதைக் கேட்ட மகாராஜா மிகவும் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்தார். தெனாலிராமை அருகில் அழைத்து அங்கு முட்புதர்கள் இருப்பது ஏற்கனவே தெரியுமா என்று கேட்டார். மகாராஜாவின் பேச்சைக் கேட்ட தெனாலிராம், “காட்டில் இதுபோன்ற பல புதர்கள் உள்ளன, அவற்றால் ரத்தப்போக்கு மூலம் ஒரு நபர் இறக்கவும் கூடும். நமக்கு முன்னால் காட்டில் இதுபோன்ற ‘உயிர் குடிக்கும் புதர்கள்' இன்னும் அதிகமாக இருக்கலாம் என்று நான் சந்தேகித்தேன்.
