PUNISHMENT FOR YAWNING
One day, Queen Tirumala sent a message to Tenali raman that she was in great trouble and wanted to meet him. On receiving the message of the queen, Tenaliram immediately reached to meet the queen. Tenaliram said, "Queen! How did you remember this servant?" To this Queen Tirumala said, "Tenaliram! I am in a great trouble."
Tenaliram said, "Don't worry at all and tell me what's the matter?" Hearing the words of Tenaliram, the queen's eyes filled with tears. She said, “Actually Maharaj is very angry with me.” Tenaliram said, "But why? What happened after all?" The queen said, “One day Maharaj was reading to me a play and then suddenly I yawned, just got angry with this, Maharaj left.”
The queen said to Tenaliram, "Many days have passed since then, but Maharaj has not come to me. I had apologized to Maharaj even though I was not at fault, but it did not have any effect on Maharaj. Now you can tell me the solution to this problem, Tenaliram.
Tenaliram said to the queen, "Don't worry at all, Queen! I will try my best to solve your problem." After consoling the queen, Tenaliram reached the court.
Maharaj Krishnadeva Raya was discussing with the ministers about the cultivation of rice in the state. Maharaj was telling the ministers, “It is necessary for us to increase the rice yield in the state. We put in a lot of effort. With our efforts, the situation has improved, but the problem is not completely over.” Then suddenly Tenaliram picked up one particular seed each from the rice seeds and said, "Sir, if this variety is sown, the yield can increase manifold this year."
Maharaj asked, "Can this seed be grown without any manure?" To this Tenaliram said, "Yes Maharaj! Nothing more needs to be done to sow this seed, but…!” Maharaj asked, "But what Tenaliram?" Tenaliram replied, “The condition is that the person who sows, waters and reaps this seed should be such a person who has never yawned or yawned in life.”
Hearing this, the Maharaja said furiously, "Tenaliram! I have never seen a fool like you." The Maharaj said sulkingly, "Will there be anyone in the world who has never yawned. Tenaliram said, Oh! I'm sorry sir! I didn't know that everyone yawns. Not only me, Maharani is also under the impression that yawning is a big crime, I just go and tell this matter to Maharani also.
After listening to Tenaliram, in a flash the king realised his folly . He understood that Tenaliram has indicated that he should rectify the mistake. Accepting Tnalis clue the king said, "I myself will go and tell this thing to the Queen." After this Maharaj immediately went to the palace and met the queen and resolved all the grievances with her.
கொட்டாவிக்கு தண்டனை
ஒரு நாள், ராணி திருமலா, தெனாலிராமுக்கு, தான் மிகுந்த சிரமத்தில் இருப்பதாகவும், அவரைச் சந்திக்க விரும்புவதாகவும் செய்தி அனுப்பினார். ராணியின் செய்தியைப் பெற்ற தெனாலிராம் உடனடியாக ராணியைச் சந்திக்க வந்தார். தெனாலிராம், “ராணி! இந்த வேலைக்காரனை எப்படி நினைவு செய்தாய்?" அதற்கு ராணி திருமலை, "தெனாலிராம்! நாங்கள் பெரும் சிக்கலில் இருக்கிறோம்” என்றார்.
தெனாலிராம், “கவலைப்படாதீர், என்ன விஷயம் என்று சொல்லுங்கள்?” என்றார். தெனாலிராமின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டு அரசியின் கண்களில் நீர் வழிந்தது. அவர் சொன்னார், "உண்மையில் மகாராஜ் எங்கள் மீது மிகவும் கோபமாக இருக்கிறார்." தெனாலிராம், “ஏன்? என்ன நடந்தது?" ராணி,
அவள் சொன்னாள், "உண்மையில் மகாராஜ் என் மீது மிகவும் கோபமாக இருக்கிறார். “ஒரு நாள் மஹாராஜ் எனக்கு ஒரு நாடகம் வாசித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார், திடீரென்று நான் கொட்டாவிவிட்டேன், இதனால் கோபமடைந்து, மகாராஜ் அங்கிருந்து சென்றுவிட்டார்.”
ராணி தெனாலிராமிடம், “அதற்குப் பிறகு பல நாட்கள் கடந்தும், மகராஜ் என்னிடம் வரவில்லை. நான் தவறு செய்யவில்லை என்றாலும் மகாராஜிடம் மன்னிப்பு கேட்டிருந்தேன், ஆனால் அதை மகாராஜா ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளவில்லை. தெனாலிராம், இந்தப் பிரச்சனைக்கான தீர்வை இப்போது சொல்லுங்கள்.
தெனாலிராம் ராணியிடம், "கவலைப்படாதீர்கள் அரசி! தங்களுடைய பிரச்சனையைத் தீர்க்க என்னால் முடிந்தவரை முயற்சி செய்கிறேன்." ராணியை மனம்தேற்றிய பிறகு, தெனாலிராம் நீதிமன்றத்தை அடைந்தார். மாநிலத்தில் நெல் சாகுபடி குறித்து அமைச்சர்களுடன் மகாராஜ் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயா விவாதித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.
மகாராஜ் அமைச்சர்களிடம், “மாநிலத்தில் அரிசி விளைச்சலை அதிகரிக்க வேண்டியது அவசியம். நாங்கள் நிறைய முயற்சி செய்தோம். எங்களின் முயற்சியால், நிலைமை சீரடைந்துள்ளது, ஆனால் பிரச்னை முழுமையாக முடிவுக்கு வரவில்லை” என்றார்.அப்போது திடீரென்று தெனாலிராம் நெல் விதைகளில் இருந்து ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட விதையை எடுத்து, “ஐயா, இந்த ரகத்தை விதைத்தால், இந்த ஆண்டு மகசூல் பன்மடங்கு அதிகரிக்கும்” என்றார்.
மஹராஜ், "இந்த விதையை எந்த உரமும் இல்லாமல் வளர்க்க முடியுமா?" அதற்கு தெனாலிராம், “ஆம் மகாராஜா! இந்த விதையை விதைக்க வேறு எதுவும் செய்ய வேண்டியதில்லை, ஆனால்…!” மகராஜ், "ஆனால் என்ன தெனாலிராம்?" அதற்கு தெனாலிராம், “இந்த விதையை விதைத்து, தண்ணீர் ஊற்றி, அறுவடை செய்பவர், வாழ்க்கையில் கொட்டாவி விடாதவராக, இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதே நிபந்தனை” என்றார்.
இதைக் கேட்ட மகாராஜா ஆவேசத்துடன், “தெனாலிராம்! உன்னைப் போன்றமுட்டாளை நான் பார்த்ததே இல்லை." மகாராஜா திகைப்புடன் சொன்னார், “உலகில் கொட்டாவி விடாதவர்கள் யாராவது இருப்பார்களா. தெனாலிராம், ஓ! மன்னிக்கவும் ஐயா! எல்லோரும் கொட்டாவி விடுகிறார்கள் என்று எனக்குத் தெரியாது. கொட்டாவி விடுவது பெரிய குற்றம் என்பதை நான் மட்டுமல்ல, மகாராணியும் இதே கருத்தைதான் கொண்டிருக்கிறார், நான் சென்று இந்த விஷயத்தை மகாராணியிடம் கூறுகிறேன்.
தெனாலிராமின் பேச்சைக் கேட்ட மன்னன் ஒரு நொடியில் தன் முட்டாள்தனத்தை உணர்ந்தார். தெனாலிராம், அவர் தன் தவறை சரி செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார் என்பதை அவர் புரிந்து கொண்டார். தெனாலியின் குறிப்பை ஏற்றுக்கொண்ட ராஜா,
“நானே சென்று ராணியிடம் இந்த விஷயத்தைச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார். இதற்குப் பிறகு, மகாராஜ் உடனடியாக அரண்மனைக்குச் சென்று ராணியைச் சந்தித்து அவளது அனைத்து குறைகளையும் தீர்த்தார்.
