As the soldiers complained to Maharaj Krishnadev Raya about gardener’s wife beating the goat the king enquired the lady,"How can you treat an animal so badly?"

“It's because of this goat my whole family is about to be destroyed. I am going to become a widow and my children are going to become orphans. How should I deal with that goat, my lord?" replied the gardener's wife.

King Krishnadev Raya said, "I could not understand the meaning of your words. How can this animal ruin your family?"

She said, "Sir! This is the same goat that ate your golden plant. Because of this you have sentenced my husband to death. It was the goat's fault, but my husband is getting the punishment. Actually this goat should be punished, so I was beating it with a stick.”

Now Maharaj understood that the fault was not of the gardener but of the goat. Realizing this, he asked the gardener's wife,"How did you get so much wisdom to explain my mistake in this way?" She then said, “Sir, in the beginning I could not understand anything so went constantly crying. All this has been explained to me by Pandit Tenali Raman”.

Once again King Krishnadev Raya felt proud of Tenali Raman and said,"Once again you stopped me from making a big mistake. Though it was due to the gardeners negligence that the goat ate the flowers, a death sentence is a very cruel punishment ofcourse". As soon as this was said, the Maharaj ordered to release the gardener from jail, withdrawing his death sentence on condition that he should restore the plant again and preserve it with utmost care in future. He also gave some gold coins as gift to Tenali Raman for his wisdom.

தோட்டக்காரரின் மனைவி ஆட்டை அடித்து துன்புறுத்துவது குறித்து காவலாளிகள் மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயரிடம் புகார் அளித்த பிறகு, மன்னர் அந்த பெண்ணிடம், ஒரு விலங்கை எப்படி இவ்வளவு மோசமாக நடத்துகிறாய் என்று கேட்டார். இந்த ஆடுகாரணமாக என் குடும்பம் முழுவதும் அழிய போகிறது. நான் கணவனை இழந்த கைம்பெண் ஆகப் போகிறேன், என் குழந்தைகள் ஆதரவற்றவர்கள் ஆகப் போகிறார்கள், அந்த ஆட்டை நான் எப்படிச் சமாளிப்பது ஐயா என்று தோட்டக்காரரின் மனைவி பதிலளித்தாள்.

நீ சொல்லும் வார்த்தைகளுக்கான அர்த்தத்தை என்னால்புரிந்து கொள்ள முடியவில்லை. இந்த விலங்கு எப்படி உனது குடும்பத்தை அழிக்க முடியும் என்று அதற்கு மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் கேட்டார். ஐயா! உங்கள் தங்கச் செடியைத் தின்ற அதே ஆடுதான் இது. இது செய்த காரியத்தினால்தான் என் கணவருக்கு மரண தண்டனை விதித்து விட்டீர்கள். இது ஆட்டின் தவறு. ஆனால், என் கணவர் தண்டனை அனுபவிக்கிறார். உண்மையில் இந்த ஆடுதான் தண்டிக்கப்பட வேண்டும். அதனால்தான் நான் இதை ஒரு தடியால் அடித்தேன்.

நிகழ்ந்த தவறுக்கு தோட்டக்காரர் பொறுப்பல்ல ஆடுதான் பொறுப்பு என்பதை இப்போது மன்னர் புரிந்து கொண்டார். இதை உணர்ந்ததும் தோட்டக்காரரின் மனைவியிடம், என் தவறை இவ்வாறு விளக்க உனக்குஎப்படி இவ்வளவு ஞானம் வந்தது என்று கேட்டார். ஆரம்பத்தில் எனக்கு எதுவுமே புரியவில்லை. அதனால் அழுவதை தவிர வேறு வழி தெரியவில்லை ஐயா. இதையெல்லாம் எனக்கு பண்டிதர் தெனாலிராமன் விளக்கினார் என தோட்டக்காரரின் மனைவி விளக்கம் அளித்தார்.

மீண்டும் ஒருமுறை மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் தெனாலி ராமனைப் பற்றி பெருமிதம் கொண்டார். தெனாலி ராமன் நீங்கள் மீண்டும் என்னை ஒரு பெரிய தவறு செய்ய விடாமல் தடுத்துள்ளீர்கள் என்று கூறினார். தோட்டக்காரரின் அலட்சியத்தால் ஆடு பூக்களை தின்றுவிட்டாலும், மரண தண்டனை என்பது மிகவும் கொடூரமான தண்டனையாகும். இதைக் கூறியவுடன், தோட்டக்காரரை சிறையில் இருந்து விடுவிக்க மகாராஜா உத்தரவிட்டார். அவர் மீண்டும் செடியை நட்டு எதிர்காலத்தில் மிகுந்த கவனத்துடன் அதைப் பாதுகாக்க வேண்டும் என்ற நிபந்தனையுடன் தோட்டக்காரருக்கு விதித்த மரண தண்டனையை திரும்பப் பெற்றார். தெனாலி ராமனின் ஞானத்திற்காக சில பொற்காசுகளையும் பரிசளித்தார்.
