Tenali Raman can even carry the mountain!
One day, when Tenali Raman and his wife were travelling to Hampi, they stopped by a village at the foot of a hill. They saw a large group of people standing and cheering. At the center of the gathering was a weightlifter, who was six foot tall. To exhibit his muscular power, the bodybuilder lifted a huge gunny bag and placed it on his shoulders.
Oh my God! This weightlifter from neighbouring country is really strong. He can carry 500kg of rice with such ease an old man remarked. That’s nothing. I am capable of carrying a thousand times more weight said Raman in a loud voice. Upon hearing this, the bodybuilder dropped the bag and gazed at Raman. Everyone in the group were shocked too.
Seizing the opportunity, Raman addressed the crowd and said, “Yes! What you have heard is true; I can even carry that hill on my shoulders.” The weightlifter laughed out loud and said, “Is it so? Then why don’t you show us what you can do?” Without flinching, Raman said, “I said I could do it, but did I say I would do it now? How many months of preparation did you need to lift that bag?”
“Three months,” answered the weightlifter. “Ah! Then I might need at least six months and for that to happen, I need to eat a huge amount of food and also get someone to massage my body daily.”
To save the pride of his country, the village headman agreed to provide Raman and his wife a house and all that he had asked for. And since no one came forward to massage Raman's body daily, the weightlifter agreed to do it. Days went by, and finally, the day arrived. The villagers gathered at the foot of the hill to witness the mammoth task.
Raman entered and stood at the foot of the hill in a warrior’s pose and announced, “I am ready.” and stood still in that pose. The village chief, who was then losing his patience, said, “What are you waiting for?
“I am waiting for your men to lift the hill and place it on my shoulders,” replied Raman. “But, who will lift the hill for you?” asked the village headman, surprised. “That’s for you to decide,” replied Raman calmly.
After a while, the village head came up to Raman, and said, “Oh a man of your intelligence can even carry Mount Kailash. I salute you for your wit.” The villagers, too, cheered Raman for his intelligence.
தெனாலி ராமன் மலையைக் கூட சுமப்பார்!
ஒரு நாள், தெனாலி ராமனும் அவரது மனைவியும் ஹம்பிக்குப் பயணம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தபோது, மலையடிவாரத்தில் ஒரு கிராமத்தில் இறங்கினார்கள். அங்கு ஏராளமான மக்கள் நின்று ஆரவாரம் செய்வதைக் கண்டனர்.
கூட்டத்தின் மையத்தில் ஆறடி உயரமுள்ள ஒரு பளுதூக்குபவர் இருந்தார். அவரது தசை உடல் வலிமையை வெளிப்படுத்த, ஒரு பெரிய சாக்குப் பையை தூக்கி தோள்களில் வைத்தார்.
ஐயோ! அண்டை நாட்டில் இருந்து வரும்இந்த பளுதூக்குபவர் மிகவும் வலிமையானவர். அவரால் 500 கிலோ அரிசியை எளிதில் தூக்க முடியும் என்று ஒரு முதியவர் சொன்னார்.
இது என்ன பிரமாதம் என்னால் இதை விடவும் ஆயிரம் மடங்கு எடையை சுமக்க முடியுமே என்று உரத்த குரலில் கூறினார் ராமன்.
இதைக் கேட்ட பளுதூக்குபவர் பையை கீழே இறக்கிவிட்டு ராமனைப் பார்த்தார். கூடி இருந்த அனைவரும் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்தனர்.
அந்த வாய்ப்பைப் பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்ட ராமன் கூட்டத்தினரை நோக்கி, ஆம்! நீங்கள் கேட்டது உண்மைதான்; அந்த மலையை என்னால் என் தோளில் தூக்கி சுமக்க முடியும் என்றார்.
பலமாக சிரித்த பளுதூக்குபவர், அப்படியானால் உன்னால் முடிந்ததை எங்களுக்கு ஏன் காட்டக்கூடாது எனக் கேட்டார்.
ராமன் தயங்காமல் என்னால் முடியும் என்று சொன்னேன், ஆனால் இப்போது செய்வேன் என்று சொன்னேனா? அந்தப் பையைத் தூக்குவதற்கு எத்தனை மாதங்கள் நீ தயாரானாய் எனக் கேட்டார்.
மூன்று மாதங்கள் என பதிலளித்தார்.
ஆ! அந்த மலையை என் தோளில் சுமக்கஎனக்கு குறைந்தது ஆறு மாதங்கள் தேவைப்படலாம், அது நடக்க, நான் பலமடங்கு உணவை சாப்பிட வேண்டும், மேலும் ஒருவர் தினமும் என் உடலை பிடித்து விட வேண்டும்.
தம் நாட்டு பெருமையை காப்பாற்றுவதற்காக
கிராமத்தலைவர் ராமனுக்கும் அவரது மனைவிக்கும் வீடு மற்றும் அவர் கேட்ட அனைத்தையும் வழங்க ஒப்புக்கொண்டார். மேலும் ராமனின் உடலை பிடித்துவிட யாரும் முன்வராததால் பளுதூக்குபவரே அதை செய்வதாக ஒப்புக்கொண்டார்.
நாட்கள் சென்றன, இறுதியாக, அந்த நாள் வந்தது. இந்த மாபெரும் பணியை காண கிராம மக்கள் மலை அடிவாரத்தில் திரண்டனர்.
ராமன் உள்ளே நுழைந்து மலையடிவாரத்தில் கம்பீரமாக நின்று, “நான் தயார்” என்று அந்த தோரணையில் அப்படியே நின்றார்.
அப்போது பொறுமை இழந்த ஊர் தலைவர், எதற்காக காத்திருக்கிறீர்கள் என கேட்டார்.
உன் ஆட்கள் மலையைத் தூக்கி என் தோள்களில் வைப்பதற்காக நான் காத்திருக்கிறேன் என்றார் ராமன்.
ஆனால், உனக்காக யார் மலையைத் தூக்குவார் என்று கிராமத்தலைவர் ஆச்சரியத்துடன் கேட்டார்.
அதை நீங்கள் தான் முடிவு செய்ய வேண்டும் என்று நிதானமாக பதிலளித்தார் ராமன்.
சிறிது நேரம் கழித்து, கிராமத்தலைவர் ராமனிடம் வந்து, உங்களை போன்ற புத்திசாலித்தனமான ஒரு மனிதன் கைலாச மலையை கூட சுமக்க முடியும். உங்கள் புத்திசாலித்தனத்திற்காக நான் உங்களை வாழ்த்துகிறேன் என கூற கிராம மக்களும் ராமனின் புத்திசாலித்தனத்தை பாராட்டினர்.
