THE KEY TO HEAVEN
Tenali Raman is known to have helped the king and saved the citizens of Vijayanagara with his intelligence on several occasions. Here is one such story. There was a buzz in the city of Vijayanagara that a great sage had come to the city. It was also rumored that the sage had magical powers and could grant any wish. Every day, the citizens would gather near the temple where the sage sat meditating and offer him various delicacies.
Tenali Rama, too, heard about this sage and decided to see things for himself. The next day, Rama went to the temple and observed the sage, all the while pretending to be a disciple. The sage sat under a banyan tree. He wore a saffron dhoti and had a long beard, which was grey at some places.
Tenali Rama noticed the sage chanting a mantra and listened with attention. He discovered that the sage was repeatedly chanting the same sloka. This convinced him that the sage was an imposter.
If this secret is openly revealed to the superstitious people ,they may not believe it and the cheat will also become cautious and stronger. Hence Rama thought of a suitable plan and executed it.
He reached out and plucked a strand of hair from the sage’s beard. Holding the strand of hair and lifting his hand high in the air, Rama shouted, “I have the key to heaven.” People around looked at Rama perplexed. Rama continued, “This sage is so powerful that if I keep this strand of his beard with me, I will be sent straight to heaven after death.”
Hearing this, the people rushed towards the sage to pull out a strand of hair from his beard. The imposter understood that Raman is indirectly attacking him with mob's force and panicked. Seeing the mob rushing towards him, the sage ran away and never stepped his foot in the city again. The people of Vijayanagar also learnt that it is time to know where to draw the line between faith and superstition.
சொர்க்கத்தின் திறவுகோல்
தெனாலி ராமகிருஷ்ணா மன்னருக்கு உதவியதாகவும், விஜயநகர குடிமக்களை தனது புத்திசாலித்தனத்தால் பல சமயங்களில் காப்பாற்றியதாகவும் அறியப்படுகிறது. விஜயநகர நகருக்கு ஒரு பெரிய முனிவர் வந்திருப்பதாக ஒரு சலசலப்பு ஏற்பட்டது.
முனிவருக்கு மந்திர சக்தி இருப்பதாகவும், எந்த விருப்பத்தையும் நிறைவேற்ற முடியும் என்றும் வதந்தி பரவியது. ஒவ்வொரு நாளும், குடிமக்கள் முனிவர் தியானத்தில் அமர்ந்திருந்த கோவிலுக்கு அருகில் கூடி, அவருக்கு பலவிதமான உணவுகளை வழங்குவார்கள்.
தெனாலிராமனும் இந்த முனிவரைப் பற்றிக் கேள்விப்பட்டு, விஷயங்களைத் தானே பார்க்க முடிவு செய்தார். மறுநாள், ராமர் கோவிலுக்குச் சென்று முனிவரைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார், எல்லா நேரங்களிலும் ஒரு சீடனாக நடித்தார். முனிவர் ஒரு ஆலமரத்தடியில் அமர்ந்தார். காவி நிற வேட்டி அணிந்திருந்த அவர் நீண்ட தாடியுடன் சில இடங்களில் நரைத்த முடியுடன் இருந்தார்.
முனிவர் மந்திரம் சொல்வதை தெனாலிராமன் கவனித்தார். முனிவர் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் ஒரே ஸ்லோகத்தை உச்சரிப்பதை அவர் கண்டுபிடித்தார். முனிவர் ஒரு ஏமாற்றுக்காரர் என்பதை அறிந்து கொண்டார்.
இந்த ரகசியத்தை மூடநம்பிக்கையாளர்களுக்கு வெளிப்படையாகத் தெரிவித்தால், அவர்கள் அதை நம்ப மாட்டார்கள், மேலும் ஏமாற்றுக்காரர் எச்சரிக்கையாகவும் வலிமையாகவும் மாறுவார். எனவே ராமர் தகுந்த திட்டத்தை யோசித்து அதைச் செயல்படுத்தினார்.
அவர் கையை நீட்டி முனிவரின் தாடியிலிருந்து ஒரு முடியைப் பறித்தார். முடியின் இழையைப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு, காற்றில் கையை உயர்த்திய ராமர், “சொர்க்கத்தின் திறவுகோல் என்னிடம் உள்ளது” என்று கத்தினார்.
சுற்றியிருந்தவர்கள் குழப்பத்துடன் ராமனைப் பார்த்தனர். ராமர் தொடர்ந்தார், "இந்த முனிவர் மிகவும் சக்தி வாய்ந்தவர், இந்த தாடியை என்னுடன் வைத்திருந்தால், நான் இறந்த பிறகு நேராக சொர்க்கத்திற்கு அனுப்பப்படுவேன்."
இதைக் கேட்ட மக்கள் முனிவரின் தாடியிலிருந்து ஒரு முடியைப் பிடுங்குவதற்காக அவரை நோக்கி விரைந்தனர். கும்பல் படையால் ராமன் தன்னை மறைமுகமாகத் தாக்குகிறார் என்பதை ஏமாற்றுக்காரன் புரிந்து கொண்டான். தன்னை நோக்கி விரைந்த கும்பலைக் கண்டு ஓடிப்போன முனிவர், மீண்டும் நகருக்குள் கால் வைக்க வில்லை.
நம்பிக்கைக்கும் மூடநம்பிக்கைக்கும் இடையே உள்ள கோட்டை எங்கு வரைய வேண்டும் என்பதை அறிய வேண்டிய நேரம் இது என்பதை விஜயநகர மக்கள் அறிந்து கொண்டனர்.
