THE FATAL FLOWERPOTS

King Krishnadev Raya was gifted with three precious flowerpots by his ally. These flowerpots were so beautiful that they became the dearest to the King. The King appointed a special servant to clean and look after the flowerpots. Once a mouse passed over one of the pots.

The pot trembled and fell upon the ground. Needless to say that Krishnadeva Raya was enraged knowing this. The King ordered death penalty to the servant. When Tenali Raman heard about it, he became upset for the servant. Tenali Raman visited the servant in prison and disclosed a plan to save his life.

Next day when the servant was taken for execution, the hangman asked for his last wish. The servant desired to see the remaining two flowerpots. The flowerpots were presented before the servant.

The servant quickly picked the pots and crashed them upon the ground. The King’s anger knew no bounds. When he asked the reason for this, the servant politely replied, “Maharaj, these flowerpots are perishable and bound to perish one day, but before dying I have saved at least two invaluable lives which would have perished along with these pots.” The King realized his folly and ordered immediate release of the servant.

மன்னர் கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயருக்கு அவரது நட்பு நாட்டு அரசரால் மூன்று விலையுயர்ந்த பூந்தொட்டிகள் பரிசளிக்கப்பட்டன. இந்த பூந்தொட்டிகள் மிகவும் அழகாக இருந்தன. அவை மன்னருக்கு மிகவும் பிடித்தவை. மன்னர் பூந்தொட்டிகளை சுத்தம் செய்யவும், பராமரிக்கவும் ஒரு சிறப்பு ஊழியரை நியமித்தார்.

ஒருமுறை ஒரு சுண்டெலி பூந்தொட்டி ஒன்றின் மேல் சென்றது. பூந்தொட்டி ஆட்டம் கண்டு தரையில் விழுந்தது. இதை அறிந்த கிருஷ்ணதேவ ராயர் கோபமடைந்தார் என்று சொல்லத் தேவையில்லை. அரசர் அந்த வேலைக்காரனுக்கு மரணதண்டனை விதித்தார்.

அதைக் கேள்விப்பட்ட தெனாலி ராமன் அந்தவேலைக்காரனுக்காக மிகவும் வருத்தப்பட்டார். சிறையில் இருந்த வேலைக்காரனை தெனாலி ராமன் சந்தித்து அவரது உயிரைக் காப்பாற்றும் திட்டத்தை சொன்னார்.

அடுத்த நாள் வேலைக்காரன் தூக்கிலிடப்படும் சமயத்தில் தூக்கிலிடுபவர் வேலைக்காரனின் கடைசி ஆசையைக் கேட்டார். வேலைக்காரன் எஞ்சிய இரண்டு பூந்தொட்டிகளைப் பார்க்க விரும்பினார். பூந்தொட்டிகள் வேலையாள் முன் கொண்டுவந்து வைக்கப்பட்டன.

வேலைக்காரன் பூந்தொட்டிகளை விரைவாக எடுத்து தரையில் போட்டு உடைத்தார். இதை கண்ட அரசரின் கோபத்துக்கு எல்லையே இல்லை.அதற்கான காரணத்தைக் கேட்டபோது, “மகாராஜா, இந்தப் பூந்தொட்டிகள் அழியக் கூடியவை. ஒரு நாள்அழிந்தே தீரும். ஆனால், இறப்பதற்குமுன், இந்தப் பூந்தொட்டிகளோடு சேர்ந்து அழியவிருந்த விலைமதிப்பற்ற இரு உயிர்களையாவது நான் காப்பாற்றி விட்டேன்” என்று பணிவுடன் பதிலளித்தார். மன்னர் தன்னுடைய முட்டாள்தனத்தை உணர்ந்து, வேலைக்காரனை உடனடியாக விடுவிக்க உத்தரவிட்டார்.
