EXPENDITURE ON CONDITION
At times when the king had some free time, he used to enjoy playing pranks on the courtiers or troubling them with intricate tasks. On one such occasion King Krishndev Raya thought of testing his courtiers.
The King gifted hundred gold coins to every courtier and asked them to purchase whatever they feel like but on one condition. Whenever they spend money, before spending they have to look at the king. Only after looking that, they can buy. Everyone was shocked to hear this peculiar condition because it is not possible to take the king for shopping and the king also cannot accompany them every time.
One week later, the king instructed all the courtiers to assemble in the royal court. He wanted feed back about the 100 gold coins he gave them the previous week. Except for Tenali Raman, no one had spent even a single gold coin. The King asked Tenali Raman,“How dare you spent so many coins without looking at my face. I made it very clear in the beginning that no one will make even a single purchase without looking at my face”.
Tenali Raman replied politely, “Maharaj, every time I made a purchase, I saw your face ...printed on the gold coins given to us”. The King realized that the currency of Vijaynagar carries the impression of his face on it. The King admired Tenali Raman’s wit. The other courtiers regretted that they missed a good chance of spending 100 gold coins due to their lack of prudence.
செலவழிக்க ஒரு நிபந்தைன!
மன்னருக்கு ஓய்வு நேரம் கிடைக்கும்போதெல்லாம், அரசவையினரிடம் சேட்டைகள் செய்வது, சிக்கலான பணிகளை செய்து முடிக்க சொல்லி அவர்களை தொந்தரவு செய்வது போன்ற காரியங்களை செய்துமகிழ்ந்தார். அப்படிப்பட்ட ஒருசந்தர்ப்பத்தில் அரசர் கிருஷ்ணதேவராயர் தனது அரசவையினரை சோதிக்க நினைத்தார்.
அரசர் ஒவ்வொரு அரசவையினருக்கும் நூறு பொற்காசுகளை பரிசாக அளித்து, ஒரு நிபந்தனையின் பேரில் அவர்கள் விரும்பும் எதையும் வாங்கலாம் என்றார். ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் பணம் செலவழிப்பதற்கு, முன் மன்னரின் முகத்தை பார்க்க வேண்டும்.
அதன் பிறகே வாங்க முடியும். ராஜாவை கடைவீதிக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்வது சாத்தியமில்லை, ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் ராஜா அவர்களுடன் செல்ல முடியாது என்பதால், இந்த விசித்திரமான நிபந்தனையை கேட்டு அனைவரும் அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்தனர்.
ஒரு வாரத்திற்குப் பிறகு, அனைத்துஅரசவையினரும் அரச சபையில் கூடும்படி மன்னர் கட்டளையிட்டார். கடந்த வாரத்தில் அவர் கொடுத்த 100 தங்க நாணயங்களைப் பற்றியபின்னூட்டத்தை கூறும்படி அறிவித்தார். தெனாலி ராமனைத் தவிர வேறு யாரும் ஒரு பொற்காசு கூட செலவழிக்கவில்லை.
மன்னர் தெனாலி ராமனிடம், “எனது முகத்தைப் பார்க்காமலேயே இத்தனை காசுகளை செலவழிக்க என்ன தைரியம் உனக்கு! என் முகத்தைப் பார்க்காமல் யாரும்ஒரு பொருள் கூட வாங்கக் கூடாதுஎன்பதை ஆரம்பத்திலேயே தெளிவாகச் சொல்லிவிட்டேனே" என்றார்.
தெனாலி ராமன் பணிவாகப் பதிலளித்தார், “மகராஜா, நான் ஒவ்வொருமுறையும் வாங்கும் போதும், உங்கள்முகத்தைப் பார்த்தேன்... எங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட தங்கக் காசுகளில் உங்கள் முகம் அச்சிடப்பட்டுள்ளதே”. விஜய நகரத்தின்நாணயம் தன் முகத்தை இலச்சினையாக கொண்டிருப்பதை மன்னர் உணர்ந்தார்.
தெனாலி ராமனின் புத்திசாலித்தனத்தை மன்னர் பாராட்டினார். தங்களுக்கு விவேகம் இல்லாததால் 100 பொற்காசுகள் செலவழிக்கும் நல்ல வாய்ப்பை இழந்ததாக மற்ற அரசவையினர் வருந்தினர்.
