The Magical Stick

Keerthi was a rich businessman who was fascinated by jewellery and liked wearing them. He used to wear a favourite diamond necklace always. One day he absent-mindedly kept his necklace on the table and went for a shower. When he came back, his diamond necklace was missing and nowhere to be found. He instructed all his servants to assemble in the hall and asked them to return the missing jewellery if anyone has taken it out of temptation. None came forward so the businessman went to the court to report his complaint.

Birbal listened to his story and asked the man to come along with his servants the next day. The following day when all of them arrived, Birbal gave each servant one stick and informed them that it is a magical stick to detect the thief. The stick of the thief will grow four fingers taller overnight. Birbal then asked all the servants to return to the court the next morning. The thief who took the necklace was very scared. He had cut the stick four-finger shorter to be safe.

But it was revealed the next morning that it was no magical stick but just a trick to find the thief. Thus, Birbal once again proved to be the wise gem of the court of Akbar.

கீர்த்தி எனும் பணக்கார தொழிலதிபர் இருந்தார். நகைகளால் அவர் பெரிதும் ஈர்க்கப்பட்டார் மற்றும் அவற்றை அணிய பேராவல் கொண்டார். தனக்கு பிடித்த ஒரு வைர அட்டிகையை அவர் எப்போதுமே அணிந்திருப்பார்.

மேலும் காணாமல் போன நகையினை யாராவது மனதை கட்டுப்படுத்த முடியாமல் எடுத்துச் சென்றிருந்தால் அதை திருப்பி தந்துவிடும்படி கேட்டுக் கொண்டார். யாரும் முன்வராததால் தொழிலதிபர் தனது புகாரை நீதிமன்றத்திற்கு எடுத்துச் சென்றார்.

பீர்பால் அவருடைய கதையைக் கேட்டு, அந்த நபரிடம் மறுநாள் தன் வேலையாட்களுடன் வரும்படி கூறினார். மறுநாள் அவர்கள் அனைவரும் வந்ததும், பீர்பால் ஒவ்வொரு வேலைக்காரனிடமும் ஒரு கோலைக் கொடுத்து, இது திருடனைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கக்கூடிய ஒரு மந்திரக் கோல் என தெரிவித்தார்.

திருடனிடம் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட கோல் ஒரே இரவில் நான்கு விரல்கள் அளவுக்கு நீளம் வளர்ந்துவிடும் என்றார். மறுநாள் காலையில் அனைத்து வேலையாட்களும் நீதிமன்றம் வரும்படி பீர்பால் கேட்டுக்கொண்டார். நகையை எடுத்த திருடன் மிகவும் பயந்து போனான். தான் மாட்டிக்கொள்ளாமல் இருக்க கோலை நான்கு விரல்கள் நீளத்துக்கு வெட்டி வைத்து இருந்தான்.

ஆனால், அது மாயக் கோல் இல்லை, திருடனைக் கண்டுபிடிப்பதற்கான தந்திரம் என்பது மறுநாள் காலையில் தெரியவந்தது. இவ்வாறு, பீர்பால் மீண்டும் அக்பர் அரசவையின் ஞான ரத்தினம் என்பது நிரூபிக்கப்பட்டது.
