A potter and a washerman lived in adjoining houses. The potter was lazy. The washerman did everything on time. So everyone appreciated the punctual washerman. The potter became jealous of the washerman.
On a day, the potter, told the king, “My lord, all the elephants in Persia are white. They look very beautiful.” The king said, “What to do? All the elephants in our palace are black in colour,” he sighed.
The potter smiled mischievously and said, “The washerman next door to me is very talented. He can clean your elephants well and turn them white.” The king was happy and immediately order the washerman, “All my elephants should be made white”.
Since the washerman cannot disobey the king’s order he sadly rubbed one of the palace elephant’s body with a brush. But the elephant was not a shade whiter.
The potter sarcastically asked, “How many elephants have you bleached today?”
The washerman understood. “This plot has been hatched by this potter”.
The next day washerman went to the king and said, “O king, if you make the elephants stand in a big vessel, I can clean them better. My neighbour, the potter, is skilled in making such gigantic objects," he said.
An order was immediately issued to the potter. However big mud vessel was made as soon as the elephant stepped into it, the pot broke into bits and pieces. This made the king furious. The potter fell at the king's feet. He confessed his conspiracy and apologized.
The king smiled. “I already know your plot. I did this to make you feel for it. Now apologize to this washerman” he said.
கருப்பு யானையை வெள்ளை யானையாக மாற்றிக்காட்டு!
ஒரு குயவரும் சலவை தொழிலாளியும் அக்கம்பக்கத்தில் வசித்தனர். குயவர் சோம்பேறி. சலவை தொழிலாளியோ எதையும் நேரப்படி செய்பவர். நேரம் தவறாத சலவை தொழிலாளியை எல்லோரும் பாராட்டினர். இதனால் அவர் மீது குயவர் பொறாமை கொண்டார்.
ஒரு முறை அரசவைக்குச் சென்ற குயவர், மன்னா பாரசீகத்தில் உள்ள யானைகள் எல்லாம் வெண்மையாக இருக்கின்றன, வெகு அழகாக தோற்றமளிக்கின்றன என்றார்.
அதற்கு மன்னர், என்ன செய்ய? நமது அரண்மனையிலுள்ள யானைகள் எல்லாம் கருப்பு நிறத்
தில்தானே உள்ளன என்றபடி பெருமூச்சுவிட்டார்.
குயவர் வஞ்சகமாகப் புன்னகைத்தபடி என் அண்டைவீட்டார் திறமைவாய்ந்த சலவை தொழிலாளி. அவரால் உங்கள் யானைகளை நன்கு சுத்தம் செய்து வெண்மையாக மாற்றிவிட முடியும் என்றார்.
மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்த மன்னர், எனது அனைத்து யானைகளையும் வெள்ளையாக மாற்றிவிடு என்று சலவை தொழிலாளிக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார். மன்னரின் கட்டளையை மீற முடியாத கவலையில் அரண்மனை யானை ஒன்றின் உடலை பிரஷ் கொண்டு சலவை தொழிலாளி தேய்த்தார். ஆனால், யானை சிறிதும் வெளுப்பாகவில்லை.
குயவர் கிண்டலாக, இன்று எத்தனை யானைகளை வெளுத்தீர்? என்று கேட்டார். சலவை தொழிலாளிக்கு குயவரின் சதி புரிந்துவிட்டது. அடுத்த நாள் அவர் மன்னரிடம் சென்று, மன்னா, யானைகளை பெரிய பாண்டத்தில் நிற்கவைத்தால் என்னால் அவற்றை
வெளுப்பாக்க முடியும். எனதுஅண்டை வீட்டுக்காரரான குயவர் பிரம்மாண்டமான பாண்டங்களை செய்வதில் கைதேர்ந்தவர் என்றார்.
உடனடியாக குயவருக்கு அதற்கான ஆணை பிறப்பிக்கப்பட்டது. எவ்வளவு பெரிய பாண்டம் செய்தாலும் யானை கால் வைத்ததும் சுக்குநூறாக உடைந்து சிதறியது.
குயவர் மன்னரின் காலடியில் விழுந்தார். தன் சதியைக் ஒப்புக்கொண்டு மன்னிப்பு கேட்டார்.
மன்னர் புன்னகைத்தார். உன் சதி எனக்கு ஏற்கெனவே தெரிந்துவிட்டது. உன்னை உணர வைக்கத்தான் இப்படி செய்தேன். சலவை தொழிலாளியிடம் மன்னிப்பு கேள் என்றார்.
